? about wide calves and cankles

Be honest,

If a person (hmmm, let's say me) has really wide calves/cankles but average size body, would it look better to always wear pants to cover them up?  I see so many cute dresses/skirts and stuff but just think that putting that feature out there is not my best.  However, I really do not want to just never wear anything dressy due to the cankles.  Girls with similiar situations, what do you do?  I know how to minimize with shoes and such but .........only so much you can minimize those running/weight lifting calves.

  • Honestly, look around. Everyone has something they hate.  Now that I am in my 30's, I am starting to embrace how I look and wear what I want. I spent so many years avoiding cute things b/c I didn't like this or that about myself. Now I look back and realize that I was a cutie and should have worn what all of the others were wearing.

  • I have the same problem :( im just trying to work out more, and saying screw it! I think summer dresses are soo cute and much more comfortable than pants. I am 27 and ive had enough. Lol. :)
  • i have HUGE athletic calves and LOVE wearing dresses to show them off :)  I find that the proper shoe and heel help accentuate them and make them look even better.  I saw show them off!!   PS i also get many compliments about my big calves, although i do hate that i cant wear many of the newest fashions like skinnie jeans or anything thats straight leg

    So so so true!

One of my closest friends is skinny and in awesome shape, and she has wide calves/cankles. Honestly, I had NEVER noticed it. She pointed it out one day and that's the only time I've ever even looked at her "cankles". Yes she has them, but no one notices! Wear what you want :)

  • I have this issue but I definitely don't let it get in the way of wearing dresses and shorts.  I just avoid shoes with ankle straps and wear heels most of the time.

  • I have pretty wide calves in general, but what I've found works for me is the fake tanning.  I use the Jergens stuff and slowly darken the tone, and then they look a lot better than when they're super white.   Also, someone else had a good point - if you don't point them out, chances are most people won't even notice.
  • I never wear trousers and I have large muscular calves.  I think they are awesome as they aren't fat, but are the size due to genetics and working out.  I think that sometimes wearing trousers makes them look bigger cause they 'catch'.  I don't wear skirts that are mid-calf length but think I look best with mid-knee, just below knee or just above knee length.  Seriously - rock your athletic bod!!!
