Anyone have corian?

Re-doing our kitchen and ideally I'd like to have granite. I'm trying to decide if maybe corian would be a suitable alternative to save a little cash. If you have it do you like it? Any pros or cons?

Re: Anyone have corian?

  • We had Corian in our old house and my IL's swear by it. I liked it because it was sealed and you didn't have to worry about staining, bacteria etc. You don't need any special cleaners . If there were scratches you could buff it out, although we never got to that point. You get a nice look for not as much cost, although it's not cheap either. There are also so many more colors to choose from since we originally built our first house. Cons were you can't put anything warm/hot on them.
  • My parents have it and they love it.  I also like it and wish we had it in our house.  It's very sturdy and it looks nice.

  • Make sure you get real Corian brand counter tops.  My old house had some off brand that the previous owners put in and the color faded from the sun after only a couple of years.

The look of Corian isn't my personal favorite but it's very user friendly.

  • Thank you all for your input- so helpful!

And MaineWifey- did not know that! Thanks for the heads up.

I had it in my first house and it was fine.  It held up really well.

  • I love my corian countertops "Raincloud." Personally, I think granite may be on its way out with the popularity of marble and now quartz. This looks just like marble to me...maybe better! Love it. You can see pics here: http://gildedmint.blogspot.com/2012/07/how-to-update-your-kitchenwithout.html

    Good Luck!
