Skin Care Q's

2 questions.

1. What is a toner? I mean, what exactly does it do? Who should use one? I currently just use a gentle face wash (cetaphil) and a moisturizer (neutrogena). I am not oily or dry (but more on the dry side than oily). I do have somewhat sensitive skin. Do I need a toner?

2. I'm 28. I've started noticing lines/wrinkles around my eyes, and bags when I'm tired/early in the morning. I think it's time for an eye cream or something. Suggestions?

Re: Skin Care Q's

  • I have combination skin - it's more oily than it used to be since going off the pill, but it still is dry in spots.. very combination. I always had dry skin so I never used a toner, but recently I started using the Mario Badescu cucumber lotion one... (it's not lotion, it's a toner).  I really like it and I think it has helped keep my skin (relatively) in check. I use it after washing, and it still removes makeup for me - and sometimes that shocks me, because I'll have washed my face twice and yet makeup still comes off with the toner.  I think it helps get your skin that much cleaner, and for me, that means clearer skin.

#2 - I can't help, I don't use anything, but have heard kiehl's avocado cream for the eyes is good.

  • 1. A toner is wash designed to cleanse the skin and shrink the appearance of pores (from wiki). You usually spray them onto your face, or use a cotton ball. I personally don't use a toner, and don't really think it makes a difference, but other ladies will have had different experiences with them, I'm sure. Right now I use a face wash and a light moisturizer and my skin looks great.

    2.  I'm only 20, so I haven't tried any eye creams, but I definitely suggest you start using one if you want to prevent lines and wrinkles. I've heard there are some good ones. You might want to talk to a dermatologist about Retin-A creams too.

  • No help on #1 but for #2, I use Lancome night cream when I remember. I think it's fine. I don't really buy into any of that stuff, so I guess I'm no help.
  • I have used toner in the past and really don't think it makes a difference, for me at least.  Plus, I have sensitive skin, and some toners can be dry and irritatign for me.

Prescription strength Retin-A is really the best thing you can do for fine lines, but if you don't want to go that route, get a drugstore product with Retinol.  You can google both Retinol and Retin-A to get a ton of info about their effectiveness for fine lines.

  • Water and fruit, the most natural
  • 1. Toner helps prep your skin's pH to better absorb moisturizer. I like GM Collin's spray.

    2. Clinique All About Eyes Rich

  • #2- I use Ole Henriksen's Ultimate Eye Lift Gel at night

and Ole Henriksen Total Truth Eye Creme Spf 15 during the day
