Intro...anyone have Cocker Spaniels here?

Hello! I have an almost 8 year old Cocker Spaniel and she's very healthy so far (very few ear infections which is strange for this breed) but she gets finicky about eating every so often and throws up a lot. I've heard that these dogs tend to do that but I was wondering if anyone had tips for reducing the amount of times it happens....we changed her food already.

TIA !

  • What foods have you tried?

  • Your dog is gorgeous!

Do you think she could be eating too fast and upsetting her belly? I'd suggest smaller meals more frequently.. I know my cat sometimes gets an upset stomach when he eats too fast.

My dog was part cocker--they are beautiful dogs!

  • I have a food hound Cocker, so I'm probably not much help for food.

We make sure to feed a high quality food. What are you feeding?

  • We have a blonde cocker as well, he's almost 4 and has never had skin or ear problems (knocks furiously on all the wood)... no vomiting though.  What are you feeding?  We feed Blue and add TOTW occasionally.

My mom's greyhound mix has vomiting issues and she's found that adding canned to his diet has helped.

  • We tried various Iams and Purina types as a puppy ...we switched to the Purina One when that came out in the last year or so. My parents have a Cairn Terrier with an even worse stomach and the Purina One helped her a little which is why we tried it. I was thinking of trying the food they sell in refrigerators at the store to see what she thought of that. My mom actually cooks for her dog moreso now rather than buying food....I'm just not sure if I'm ready to cook for my dog, haha.

  • Iams and Purina are pretty poor quality foods, I'd try to get her on a much higher quality kibble.  Dogfoodanalysis.com is one resource that's often suggested, and you should also take a look at the FAQ link at the top of this board.  We feed Taste of the Wild and our dog does great on it.
  • I agree that the foods are your problem, you want to go with something grain free at the very least.
