using sweetened cond. milk to make caramel...a ?

has anyone ever did the can of sweetened condensed milk in a crock pot or boiled on the stove to make caramel?

wondering if this would work to dump it in a glass canning jar first?  I know the milk is already in a can and therefore BPA......but hoping that transferring to glass wouldn't add more.   thoughts?

Re: using sweetened cond. milk to make caramel...a ?

  • I have made caramel by pouring the condensed milk in a casserole dish and baking it in the oven.  This method requires the use of a water bath.  I just googled and found this recipe for the oven method.
  • Here's a link detailing how to make it using the canning jars in the slow cooker.  I'm sure either way would be fine.
  • Yes, I've done it in the regular can.  The sticky stuff that is used to adhere the label came off and stuck to my crock pot.  It was not fun to clean.

It should work just fine in a glass canning jar with a lid.
