Tailoring question

I have an old suit that is way too big (yay!). I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to get it tailored. I probably need the jacket taken in two sizes and the pants and skirt taken in 1 size. 

So I have a few questions, if anyone has done something like this before. If I get it tailored, will it fit me just like getting a new suit in the right size? I know this can depend on how good the tailor is, etc. Also, how expensive do you think this will be? I'm trying to decide if I should just replace it. TIA!

DH had to have a suit tailored a whole size down.  The tailor made suits for George W and Lyndon B Johnson. He pretty much had to deconstruct the whole suit and put it back together.  I think we paid $250 for it all said and done.  It was pricey but DH admits that he loves the way it fits now.  He even got on a suit kick and would go buy suits when they were on sale and have them tailored.

Do the shoulders/arms still fit decently? It will be more expensive if they need to reshape the armhole/sleeve area, vs. taking in the body of the suit. I would estimate about $30-40 for a jacket, without dealing with the shoulder/sleeve, and maybe $15-20 for the pants, $10-15 for the skirt.
