Anyone ever built a corner Banquette? (PIP)

We are building a corner banquette to go in my eat in kitchen...has anyone built one of these? when you built it, did you put a bottom on it? or was it just attached to the floor and the floor was the bottom (does that make sense?) We will not be putting a back on it because it will be along windowed walls...however I would like to make some upholstered cushions to add a more comfy cozy feel.....my question with that is, should I simply sew a cushion that is temporarily attached to the piece (velcro/ties/etc) or should I treat the top of the banquette bench as a chair and upholster around the top like I would a regular seat?

TIA!

Re: Anyone ever built a corner Banquette? (PIP)

  • Hey. My in-laws have this in their kitchen. The right angle of the seating has windows behind it also. MIL has throw pillows that she had custom-made arranged to create a comfy "seat back." Theya re all arranged on angles so they overlap each other. I think she has 13 total. Each is probably 15" x 15". The bench portion is covered by a long cushion (think church pew style made to fit this bench), also custom-made. The underside beneath the seat benches is actually storage with cabinet doors (no hardware pulls). They/we like it. The table used is a round 4-top. So the seating not on the benches are two matching wooden chairs.
