Bathroom makeover- Paint help!

I want to take advantage of the Sherwin Williams 40% off sale, but now I'm starting to second guess myself... My bedroom has an accent wall of BM Labrador Blue and my initial plan was to paiint my bathroom walls Blue Haze, which is the lightest color on that color card, to keep the movement going through.  My towels (which I got a year ago as a wedding present) are blue and green and I was thinking this meant I should change my towels.

Now, I've started thinking that perhaps going with a better neutral than (like a rich beige) is in there (this weird yellow beige the builders thought looked great) and then accesorizing with the blue and green.  My counter top is white and my vanity is a dark red-y brown.

I guess I'm just afraid of the blue coming out looking a bit "little boy nursery".

 Any great colors to suggest?

Re: Bathroom makeover- Paint help!

  • I don't find that blues taken from the fundamental neutrals section of SW's fan deck come out looking like "it's a boy!," but they do if you pick from the brighter colors section.  I did a bathroom in SW Mountain Air, which is the lightest color blue on one of the neutral section chips, and I don't think it looks like a nursery.

If you're rushing to pick just for the sale, though, don't.  Figure out how much paint you need to cover the walls, and buy it untinted.  Take it home, think about it, decide what you want, and take it back to SW to have it tinted for free after you decide.  That works as long as you know what paint product you want and whether you need the white base or a deeper base.

  • There was  a really lovely neutral grey that I liked called Reflection. I can't PIP it, but it kind of looks like a dove grey with a slight blue hint to it.

This exactly.  We picked a blue color with gray in it because I wanted to avoid the pastel baby blue color.  We went with Tradewind but they have one color lighter on the same card as well.  Here's the best picture I have online right now:

I pictures of other blue colors we looked at here.  Also here is Phoebe Howard's favorite blue paint colors.  She only has two SW colors but you can get them to color match most competitors.

Make sure to get the paint color in their Duration line because they no longer have a separate bathroom line.

Personally I would prefer a blue bathroom over a beige one if all of your other rooms are beige.  Paint is easy enough to redo and in a small room it should take a gallon.  We're going with all new white towels instead of our old light blue ones.  They should be easier to keep clean because I can bleach them and they look so crisp against blue walls.
