Fool-proof dinners for a newbie cook!
My husband and I have been married for 6 months.
However, neither of us is that great at cooking, and we are running out of easy things to make. We've been living off a lot of frozen pizza, pasta, tacos, and shredded chicken slow cooker meals. However, having the same things in rotation has become a little bland...
I would LOVE some easy dinner ideas! The fewer ingredients and time spent cooking, the better! Thanks so much.
Re: Fool-proof dinners for a newbie cook!
My first suggestion, since you are good with a crock pot, is to utilize that for more than just chicken. I regularly make chili in it, and I have a few slow cooker cookbooks that I flip through when I'm getting bored of what we've made recently.
Also, aim for meals that take a half hour or less, but play with spices to change things up. DH and I make tacos weekly, but we also mix it with some Asian spices. I made a REALLY easy Thai-inspired, coconut lime noodle soup with shrimp and it was really easy and delicious.
If you visit my blog, I have a section under recipes of meals ready in 30 minutes or less. Here are some that are super easy and not pasta.
Summer Squash Quesadillas
Lentil Sloppy Joes
Avocado Grilled Cheese
Good luck and enjoy trying out new recipes!

just remember=nothing is fool proof. you need to follow the directions and use the correct ingredients, cooking utensils, pans etc....
another great way to try things out is to go to your local library, take out a bunch of cookbooks, read through them and mark the ones you want to try. photocopy the recipies and bring the books back. an easy way to review and choose and you dont ahve to buy the books.
cooking takes patience and practice and time. be sure to read and understand every part of the recipe before you start that way you wont be pressed for time or rushing.
One dinner this week:
Red pepper pasta
12 oz jar roasted red peppers 4 oz log goat cheese 1lb pasta. Cook pasta according to pkg directions. Drain peppers reserving liquid. Place peppers and goat cheese in a food processor and blend. If it too thick, add a few tablespoons of reserved pepper liquid. Toss blend with hot pasta and serve immediately.
Spring Salad
Toast 1/4 cup pecans. Hull and slice 1 quart strawberries. Wash and dry 10 oz bag of baby spinach. Mix pecans, strawberries and spinach in a large bowl. Toss with 1/4 cup bottled poppy seed dressing. Toss really well. If necessary add another tbsp or two of dressing.
