We had a mommy robin with 3 babies in a tree in a our backyard. The dogs had been really good for the last couple of weeks only showing minimal interest in them. Well I came home from the gas station earlier today and found Dapper with a baby bird in his mouth. The baby bird hung in there for a couple minutes before dying. We came to the conclusion that dogs weren't allowed outside without someone by the tree.
Then coming home from Walmart a little while later, we found a dog wondering on the road. We stopped and he came right to us. He had a collar on but no tags. We got him in our car (he hoped right in) and drove to the nearest vet to check for a microchip to no avail. The vets office said they couldn't take him so I called the vet I go to and they couldn't take him either. Since I already have 3 dogs I couldn't bring him home. I didn't know what else to do so I had to drop him at the animal control It broke my heart but I snapped a quick picture of him and posted on a local facebook page and on craigslist hoping to find his owner.
Then, we come home and my son let the dogs out without getting to the tree first and Magic got another baby! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! That one didn't live through it at all. We immediately got the dogs inside. The last baby was out of the nest hopping around so I tried to get him and put him back but he jumped out of my hands. His momma came back around and he somehow got out of our fence. So now he's safe from our dogs but I hope he makes it! I feel like I failed as a bird nest "owner". Hopefully if the bird comes back next year she'll build the nest up higher!
Re: Rough day in the animal world around my house :(
Everyone is doing really well. Cocoa is coming out of his shell more and more every day. We still have occasional potty accidents but we go long stretches without so I know when they do, I haven't paid enough attention or they are trying to get attention. All of the dogs and kids play wonderfully though!
