How does this taper sound?
For you experienced marathoners out there...
This week: 4 today, 4 Wed, 4 Thurs, 9 Sunday - lifting on Tues/Thurs
Next week: 4 Mon, 3 Wed, 2 Thurs, 2 Fri or Sat - marathon on Sunday - lift light on Tues
Thoughts on speed here? I tend to push pretty quickly through short runs, so I wonder if I should slow down? Does this look like a good plan? I'd appreciate input.

Re: How does this taper sound?
Next week, I'd rest Monday (the day after your long run) and do runs on Tue, Wed, and Fri.
No speed the week of the race. You can still hurt yourself, remember? But the work that will get you through the race is already behind you. Runs from now on--especially that week--are to keep you from going crazy and to remind your feet what to do.
Now then. How do we meet up?

Oops! Usually I long run on Saturday, so that threw me. I'll make that switch.
Want to try to ride the same bus up? We could meet at the parking garage that morning. DH is dropping me off since I'm afraid I won't be able to drive home afterwards. From what I've heard, it's just the middle of the highway, so trying to find a "spot" might not work. I will ask my friend at school tomorrow what she thinks will work.

I think that sounds good. DH is going to drop me off, too. I'm afraid that if I don't have an actual plan to meet up with the one person I "know" running the full, now, I'll be way more tempted to drop down. Even if we don't run together, I need someone to channel my nervous-energy chatting toward.
Last night I flipped through the "taper" chapters of my Hal Higdon Marathon book, and he says this week speed is still ok--you don't want your legs to forget race pace too soon--but NEXT week, leading up to the race, back the heck off.

Sounds good. We leave for CO next week so I'll send you my contact info beforehand in case it's a few days before I get online. Any outfit suggestions this far out? I check weather obsessively before a new location... thinking capris and a s/s shirt, with a throwaway on top.
