Lentils? How do you eat them?
I have never tried them and am looking for the best way to eat them, what do you cook them with or do with them?
Re: Lentils? How do you eat them?
Mostly in soup, like lentil soup or harira. You could also try lentil loaf.
My Lunch Blog
I like to use lentils du puy and cook them with a bouillon cube, a bay leaf and some thyme sprigs. I saute onions and thinly sliced carrot strips and mix with the lentils. Then make a dressing of Dijon, red wine vinegar, pepper, salt and cut fresh parsley and mix that in. I like eating it luke warm or cold. It's basically a recipe from Colleen Patrick-Goudreau. If you want the precise recipe you can visit her website. (she also has a great recipe for a lentil loaf)
They are also nice to make a curry with cocunut milk, red curry paste and canned tomato.
Or you can use red lentils to make masoor dahl

Or cook regular lentils and mix with a sturdy type of lettuce, radishes, carrot, onion and make a salad dressing of choice (I prefer something slightly sweet and mustard-based)
Have fun cooking!
this is my favorite way to eat lentils:

it's a regular in the dinner rotation.
Running and recipe blog
I think lentils taste like dirt but I do like them in Indian or Ethopian dals or soups. For the longest time I would not try dals b/c I knew they contained lentils. Once I did I discovered I really like dal!
Mmmm, I love lentils.
I like them with brown rice and feta, or with cheddar melted on them (sometimes scooped up with Food Should Taste Good sweet potato tortilla chips--my fave).
I made sloppy joes subbing lentils with the beans. It was surprisingly good..and easy since you throw everything into the crock pot.

And I just found a recipe for BBQ lentils. I haven't tried these yet, but I think the general idea would work really nicely!

Lentil Soup, I throw them in any dish I make that has curry/masala, Chili, or just plain.
I'm pretty plain jane honestly..
simple lebanese dish:
brown 1/2 onion in oil (must look almost burnt)
in another pan boil 8 cups water and 1 cup lentils, once it has boiled about 10 min add in onion and 1/3 c rice...cook til creamy.
I top w/ plain greek yogurt.
I also made stuffed peppers using the same recipe ( just 1/2'd it, and added some tomato sauce to mixture).
