Hey! Just wanted to see how your adventure to Trader Joe's went? Which one do you guys go to? Hope you found some good stuff!
Re: *MrsA*
I did, ladies, thank you!!
TJs even makes their own sodium-free wheat bread - which is SUPER because we've been having to either count sodium (bread is so high) or make our own. It doesn't taste like anything, but the texture is good, and it's really about what you are putting on it.
We got a bunch of cereals, snack foods (corn chips, veggie chips, trail mix), low sodium soup that is actually low in sodium (some still have 400mg per cup), low sodium broth, goat cheese from VT that was pretty low in sodium, and they had great organic veggies so we picked some up too.
Definitely worth the trip - and we'll go down again. We went to the one in Danvers, MA.
FYI - I was starving right before we went so we got sushi at the mall first - and that sushi place will use brown rice if you ask (low sodium (5mg per cup) and we didn't use any soy sauce. I did use a teeny bit of wasabi, but with brown rice, avacado, cucumber and fresh tuna - there wasn't a lot of natural sodium - so it was ok. So, now I have an idea for "fast food" if I'm in a mall. I definitely can't go to Panera or Subway - tried both of those first and YIKES!
Could you ever believe someone could ramble so much and get so excited about sodium?? LOL!
It was definitely worth it, Amy! My mom had celiac disease and that's how I first found out about TJ's. We would go once a month and stock up for things for her. I think we'll do the same for me until I am off these meds and can get off this diet restriction. (It's the prednisone that is giving me the high BP and they think once I am out of the lupus flare, the BP will return to normal.)
Not that we'll ever look at sodium the same or eat the way we used to. This has definitely been an education for us!
