Just what our fat city needs

Heard they are opening 16 new Dunkin Donuts in Houston in the next 5 years.    We don't have but only 4 or 5 locations here (which is like a needle in a haystack for a city this size) and I have never been to one before, as we have plenty of Shipley's and Krispy Kreme's around to fill the void.

I really wish it were VooDoo Donuts instead, but I doubt they have plans to expand since they aren't a national chain.  Sad  Transplants here from the northeast are very excited about this, you'd think it's a bigger deal than the news that we were getting an In-N-Out Burger in the future!

Re: Just what our fat city needs

  • Now I want some donuts...
    image
  • I cannot begin to tell you how much I miss Dunkin Donuts. There used to be one in Oregon, about an hour from where I live, but that went away and now I would have to travel multiple states away to get to one, which just isn't fair at all. Nothing compares to DD.

  • I don't know that I've had DD more than once, but I miss Shipley's like crazy. Mmmm, fresh cinnamon twists and donut holes. I'm drooling...

  • Well, at least they have good coffee! DD is my favorite to-go coffee place.

but, but... Pixie, you say DD is better than VooDoo?   Because I think VooDoo would be better!

I am actually not a big donut fan, I go for the kolaches more often since that's around as well, but I would probably try one when they open one in my immediate area.    I do like coffee, so I'll at least try out some of theirs.

  • I loooove the DD munchkins!

I remember as a kid, once in awhile on a Sunday morning my dad would run to DD and get a box of Munckins for us, it was such a treat!

I am actually a terrible person, and I have never been to VooDoo. H and I are going to be in Portland in a couple of weeks, though, so we're going to have to go so I can make my call on which is better. Yummmmm, donuts.

  • And yet, here in San Antonio we only have 2, one in the airport, one waaaaaay on the other side of town. Sad

Oh, I am sure you are getting DD next!

FWIW, San Antonio is getting In-N-Out before Houston, so you have us beat there.

Everyone definitely has to try a VooDoo Donut if you are there, just stand in the line (with cash!)  and don't complain!  I highly recommend the Portland Creamer to those who get out there, but the one topped with oreo cookies and cream is also good.   Smile

  • DD is about coffee, not donuts.  They tried opening Krispy Kremes in the CT/MA and they all failed because their coffee sucked.  Mmmmm...I could live on DD iced coffee - it's so good.

True, their coffee is awful, but those glazed donuts melt in your mouth when they're hot.

Yeah, they're good, but they're soooo sweet.  There were definitely lines out the door when they opened, but once the novelty wore off, nobody went there.

Same around here. It was a big deal when a Krispy Kreme opened, but it went out of business within a year. There are 12 DD's within 5 miles of my house though!

H does not miss In-N-Out. He has found better burger joints here in Texas that blow way past In-N-Out. We have this place called Chesters, voted "Best Damn Burger In the City". He said that it's a MILLION times better than In-N-Out. I have converted him.

Blasphemy!   You don't know a good burger until you've had one Animal Style.  Wink

I will have to try out Chesters if I find myself in that area, I am all about being a judge of good burgers.
