Chunky gals, recommend your sports bras

Or big boned gals. : ) I desperately need one, and haven't been able to find a good fitting one yet. Sadly, I'm a 38A, and the XL ones at Target and Wal-Mart don't fit. Old Navy never seems to have the XXL in stock at the store, so I've hesitated to order one online. I'd prefer not to spend over $20. Any rec's?

ETA: If it's lightly padded, even better. Boo for A cups.

Re: Chunky gals, recommend your sports bras

  • I adore the Moving Comfort Juno. It's $29.95 here but you can usually find a discount code for Sierra Trading Co online.

ETA: I just noticed you said you were a 38A, so I am not 100% sure the MC Juno will work. Sorry! Reading fail.

Doesn't come in 38A. : (  About another 5-10 lbs and I should be able to fit into a 36, but with my slow weight loss, that could be another 2-3 months.

ETA: They do have a couple others on their site that do, so thanks! I'll keep them in mind.

  • Do you think a 36B would work?  Have you tried wearing a supportive/compression sports tank over your sports bras?  I'd find something you like at a sporting goods store and then search for a better price online.  Sometimes you can find some really great prices on Amazon as long as you don't care about the color.  I'm sure as heck not going to work out in just my sports bra so who cares if it's powder blue or a print!

No, the 36B's are too tight on the band 98% of the time, and the B cups are just as often too big. Never tried the compression stuff, but doesn't that make you hotter? I'm already sweating my balls off in zumba, lol. Haven't tried the sporting goods store around here. I just assumed they'd only go up to an XL, which is normally too small. Guess I should give them a try to make sure. I don't care about the color either, so off to browse Amazon. Thanks!

  • I almost don't want to answer you for the use of the word "chunky" but I will anyway because I have boob-bounce issues.

I recommend: Moving Comfort Juno, Maia, or Fiona

    CW-X Xtra Support (my faaaavorite)

Good luck! You may want to go to a running store or REI to try some on first. Then buy them on Amazon where they are cheaper. $20 isn't going to get you far in sports bra world.

  • I should have read ahead more. Turns out, 38A is a tough size to find!

I did this search on Title Nine, which is a fantastic site for searching sports bras. These are the ones available in your size or equivalant in L/XL etc.

    http://search.titlenine.com/search?asug=&w=38A&Search.x=0&Search.y=0

  • Maybe Goddess brand? Not sure if they have that size, but worth a look maybe.

I know the grass is always greener and all that...but, man, an A cup sounds like my dream right now compared to my current battle of DDDs vs. C25k. Ugh.

Hey, according to my BMI, I'm obese. So to me, chunky is putting is nicely. : )

Yeah, 38A's suck. Target has them in regular bras, but not sports. I got stuck in theirs and had to call my sister into the dressing room to get me out. Not my finest moment.

I'll check out that website. Thanks!

I'll check out that brand, thanks.

Yeah, my mom and both my sisters are DD's. Not sure what happened to me, but I guess I'd rather be an A, even though my stomach sticks out further than my boobs. Hopefully not for long.

ETA: Goddess brand starts at a C cup. Boo. Thanks anyways.

  • I am currently using the Gap High Impact bra. It's on sale for $30 right now...doesn't come in a 38A but it does come in a 38B. I find they run pretty true to size for band size and a little small for cup size, so it might work for you. It does have a little padding, but I think it's more to tame the headlights if you know what I mean.
  • You could try UnderArmour bras - I used to wear them all the time and I tend to be around a 36A or 38AA or 38A (depending on how much muscle I've packed on). They keep changing the models, but you could try these (their less expensive offerings, $25 and $30):  http://www.underarmour.com/shop/us/en/womens-ua-original-3-ab-sports-bra/pid1214130-680  http://www.underarmour.com/shop/us/en/womens-gotta-have-it-sports-bra/pid1222958-373 Try the large. I like them because they're not cotton. Those models don't have padding though.
  • Thanks gals, I'll check those out!

  • I'm not particularly big boned, but I do love my Moving Comfort Alexis as a sports bra for small chested ladies. Based on their sizing chart, I think their XL would work for you. The size L says that it goes to 38", but my 34" bustline definitely needs the size M and will not fit into the S, so I would err on the side of caution and get the XL.

ETA: It is an awesome sports bra because it has two moulded cups that make it look like I have two boobs, not a uniboob and they also make it look like I have boobs as opposed to looking completely flat in a sports bra.

I know that these are a bit out of your price range, but I can't recommend them enough. I have been able to get some off-colors for $25-28 before. Let's just say that I love this bra so much that after I bought my first one, I went out and bought six more within a week.

  • Another vote for Moving Comfort's Fiona sports bra.  I think they're like $26 on Amazon.com.  The front adjustable straps really help customize the fit, and it keeps everything firmly in place.
