So my parents and I are organizing a luau rehearsal dinner for my brother getting married late next month. Although I have an advertising background, I am having the worst luck coming up with something crafty for the invitation wording.
We're doing a backyard luau with barbeque (couple's request) for 46 people at my parent's house. After they get married they are going on a cruise to various tropical locations in the Caribbean.
I thought about doing something along the lines of "Since we can't join em on the honeymoon....we're having a luau here." ...or even "Coconut Attire optional. (ha!) " BUT I also don't want it to be cheesy (and I believe that is super grande Taco bell cheesy) AND they aren't going to Hawaii. We're going with the luau theme because she wanted something laid back and they were thinking barbeque might be nice. Although, they're wanting something laid back, it's still a rehearsal dinner and I would like to be respectful.
Thoughts? Any wordsmiths out there?
Re: NDR-Luau Rehearsal Dinner-Invitation
Have you thought about just doing a classy barbque instead of a luau? I would imagine having boccee ball and croquet set up, tables with the classic red checked tablecloth and beer with cute custom labels, sort of thing.Picnic blankets scattered around, could be really cute!
I think I would just keep it simple and say "You are invited to a luau rehearsal dinner for ......" and add the time, date, location.
I wouldn't do any cutesy wording. Keep it simple: "After the rehearsal, join us for a luau to celebrate the marriage of ____ and ____."
Here are a couple of websites that might help. I Googled "classy luau party":

Well, decorations are ordered already
BUT that would be something fun for down the road.
Awesome! Thanks!
Also, in case anyone is wondering, we're doing this tastefully with the decorations. I'm sure I've gotten the side eye for the idea, but we've made it pretty tasteful. We've got some seashell garland that we are using against white table cloths, etc.
Just an update
No side-eye here, I think it sounds fun. I bet the couple will love it. You should post pictures afterwards!
Bride was actually really excited about it. She found a little set of bride and groom statues that are wearing hula outfits that she gave to my mom for it. I can't quite remember the name of this particular style for them, but we told her we would absolutely us them. Their almost a metal/tin material...but very cute.
We're doing mainly raffia/sea shells and white for tables with accents of real pineapples and fruit. Absolutely NOTHING will resemble a blown up palm tree or hula dancer. It's really "island" if that makes sense.
