Any suggestions for removing wallpaper that has been painted over.

Any help would be greatly appreciated....I have tried using one of those scorer things and spraying with DIF and it does nothing. Thanks.

  • I have no suggestions, but wanted to say Good Luck!

Wallpaper alone is terrible to get off.  That sounds awful.

  • Putty knife and steamer is your best bet.  Assuming the paint is latex it will just get a little rubbery with the heat.  I did this in every room of my old house and tried diluted white vinegar, DIF/scorer and the steamer.  Steamer was the best hands down.  You may also end up taking it off in layers - paint first then wallpaper.  It's just a lot of work.

We had to remove four layers of wallpaper.  This fabric softenener trick worked for us.  We had to really saturate the wall paper and it only removed one layer at a time.

If the walls are plaster, it can be scraped off with a razor blade scraper:

If the walls are drywall, I can't help you!
