if you used tile that looks like wood please come in.

Where did you get your tile?  was installation hard?  rants? raves? tips?  i think we may use that when we get around to doing our bathroom.
sometimes all you really need in life is a pink wig.

  • We did in our master bath, but everything was through the contractor.  I don't even remember the name of the tile.

I love it still, almost a year later.

  • Our builder installed it, so I don't have any of the info you're asking for. I know the color we selected was "pecan". I absolutely love it!

  • We just finished installing it in our kitchen and love the look. We purchased the flooring from floor and decor and it's their brand tile in oak. The rest of the house has real oak floors and that was the closest look. I was worried about the tile abutting real wood, but it actually it looks less obvious then I thought it would.

As for the install if your floor is perfectly flat it should be pretty easy. Our floor wasn't so it took a decent amount of time adjusting tiles, but it looks great.  A bigger grout line would have been simplier I prefer small lines so we used 1/16th spacers and a staggered 1/3rd brick pattern.  Just go slow.  We finished grouting this weekend with Spectralock and I'm so happy to be done!

  • We just did this in our basement bath. If you click on my blog link, I have pictures on the 2nd post down. It's beautiful and like the pp, we staggered the tile, and also used small grout lines (1/16).

  • We haven't used it, but would love to one day.

I think the biggest consideration with any large scale/longer than usual tile is that there can be more problems with warping.  You definitely want to buy extra and make sure that you can return the unused tiles.

  • Leslie--I love your tile! Do you think it was any harder/easier than regular tile? We need to do both of our bathrooms, and dh and I are going to try and do it ourselves.

I don't really have a good basis for comparison as this was only my first time and DH's 2nd time installing tile. With the tile being longer (18 inches), there were a few times where one end would noticeably sit higher than the other because of uneven mortar below. It's not a big deal as it happens because it can be fixed by slightly pressing down to even it out, but obviously if you don't catch it there's nothing that can be done when it's all cured. You just have to be attentive, that's all. Tile is quite simple to install and this was no exception. We love it and I'd really like to use this tile in another bathroom soon!
