Ikea Sofas and Other Furniture

So, we're in the process of closing on a lot and beginning to build our new home. I'm beyond excited and starting to try to plan furnishing things. I like the idea of putting a sofa sleeper in my office. There's a cute one online at Ikea, but I'm a little hesitant to make that the plan. HAGALUND Sofa bed IKEA Storage space under the seat. Easy to keep clean with a removable, machine washable cover. Easily converts into a bed.

Any feedback on Ikea furniture and/or this particular sofa, the Hagalund?

Re: Ikea Sofas and Other Furniture

  • We've never had that sofa, but we did have an Ektorp sofa for a long time. We bought it when we got our first apartment in 2001 for about $500, which was a lot for us at the time. That sofa lasted so long and was pretty comfy for a long time (until the foam started to lose some body in it's later years). We went through a few slip covers over the years, but we wound up selling it on CL in 2011 for $100. So for $400, we got 10 years of sofa out of old Ektorp. We often wished that we had ponied up the extra cash for the sleeper version.

I was pretty pleased with the quality for the price. I can't comment on how comfy the sleeper is to sleep on, because we never had one. But as far as a sofa goes, we were happy with Ikea.

  • We also have an Ektorp.  It is great.  It is comfy and cute and was a great price.  We opted for the sleeper and while it is easy to use and convenient it definitely does not encourage people to stay too long which can be a good thingStick out tongue  For the price it is great but the mattress does leave something to be desired.  Ok for a night or two but not really longer than that.

  • we have the Ekeskog sofa (they no longer carry it). we've had it for 7 years and it's been through several moves and it has held up fine. it's still really comfortable. we've only replaced the slipcover once, and that was a few years ago. my only complaint is that the thin material that they use to keep the stuffing in on the back cushions rips extremely easily when you are trying to take the slipcovers on and off. I'm not sure if that's what they use for all of their sofas, or if it is just our style.
  • Thanks! Really appreciate the feedback. Seems like all signs point to this being a good buy for my office, which won't get a ton of use, but could complete the space, and be an extra sleeping spot if needed.
  • If it's only for a sleeper sofa in a guest room, I'd gamble on the quality.

We sat on some IKEA sofas when we were furniture shopping - the quality is fine for the price, but the scale was really uncomfortable for my 6'4 husband.

  • I've heard good things about the Ektorp. We're getting the sofa bed one for our Family/Playroom this weekend.
