Did you have to pay up front for your home appraisal or was it rolled into your closing costs?
When we first sat down with our lender, we were told that the appraisal and inspection were included in with the closing costs. When we went yesterday to sign the contract, our lender asked for the check up front for the appraisal. They said they couldn't schedule the appraisal without it and there would be a credit for it in our closing costs. Now I'm confused. We're going to talk to them tonight about a few things, and any background information on the appraisal fees would be helpful!
Re: Appraisal fees?
We had to pay up front as well. I just mailed the check today with our mortgage paperwork.
Yes, we pre-paid for our appraisal and credit check. The bank has to pay the appraisal company ahead of time. I think it's standard.
When you get your HUD sheet (this should be a day or two before closing) make sure that you've been credited for the appraisal. Ours didn't and we were almost double charged.
Upfront. It was credited on our HUD.
