Going away party "would you rather" question

Assume that in general you like the people you work with, but a guest list may be hard to put together because it's hard to know where to draw the line.  Would you rather do your work going-away party

a) in the cafe-type spot at work, where they host parties (so there are people who do set-up/ clean-up, they can set up a full bar and apps, etc).  Advantage is that you can invite a lot of people, and it's really convenient.

b) at a restaurant/ bar.  Advantage is that you don't need to invite a lot of people.  Disadvantage is that it's much less convenient.

I'm waffling.

Offsite!  Parties at the firm suck.  I always feel like I can't drink enough to make it tolerable unless we are elsewhere.

  • I would really like a waffle.

I don't know about the options, I generally choose the cheaper option b/c I am a cheap bastard.

  • I would prefer to skip the whole thing.  Give me a goodbye card and pretend that we will keep in touch.

LOL, I'm not paying!  If I had to pay there would be no going away celebration of any sort.

    Ha ha, ditto.

I would choose the cafe and have whoever is putting it together send out a company wide email with an invitation so that it's not on you as to who to invite.

Haha, people here do not share your inhibitions.  But yes, offsite could be better for a lot of reasons.

  • would you rather have the opportunity to really talk to a core group and get your drink on (option B), or to do a quick goodbye to lots of people in one fell swoop, thus obviating the need to do the painful walk from office to office on the last day (option A)?

i'd probably go B because i wouldn't mind diicking around for a day saying bye to people, but some peopel find that excruciating.

    kiss it, nest.
  • I have to say good bye to everyone?

    ew.

I'm going to opt for a drink offsite where I can manage the guest list.

Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
  • Definitely B. I prefer to talk to the people I was closest with at those type of things.
