50 Shades of Grey

All of the reviews that I read/hear are eiither "Amazing, must read, couldn't put it down!!" Or "This is complete crap, don't waste a single cent." Apparently there is no "grey" area at all. lol

Re: 50 Shades of Grey

  • Oh I know right? I placed a reservation for it at my local library, because I am too cheap to buy it. If it's anything like my experience with the Twilight books, I will be highly disappointed.

  • For real. My friend was raving about it, so I looked at the reviews on amazon as I was about to buy it on my kindle... And ultimately decided not to get it after reading some of them. One in particular really stood out to me, although now I can't remember exactly what it said, ha. Something about being ridiculously unbelievable and stupidly far-fetched with the non-stop orgasms or something.

  • GAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!  GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!

Why won't you people LISTEN TO ME ABOUT THIS?!?!??!

This is the worst book ever.  It's complete garbage, not to mention boring, unsexy and unrealistic.  Anyone who likes it is utterly brainless.

Leah, if you read it, don't tell me.  Even if you hate it.  Don't tell me.

Fifty Shades makes me cry tears of frustration.

  • Didn't the author herself admit she was surprised it got so popular and thinks her own writing isn't that great?

  • I downloaded the pdf last night out of curiosity, it's awful. If this chick can make money off of this book I'm thinking maybe I need to write a book of my own.
  • True story- I read parts of it when it was still Twilight fan fiction.
The day I left was just my beginning.
  • all of you just shut up and send it to me!!  it's research!  i know it's awful!!

umm...not that i have read any, but....which fanfic did it used to be?  the office one?

YES YES. I mean, please, I LOVE me some smut that gets me all tingly. This? IS NOT THAT. And I read it knowing that it was probably going to be horrible. But it was worse. I can't even explain how much worse. Well, except that you (Zelda) know exactly what I mean.

I totally judge anyone who says they liked it. So there.

lol, I think it was called The Submissive.

Edit- I just looked it up, it was Master of the Universe.  So actually, I haven't read it.

The day I left was just my beginning.
  • It was Master of the Universe.  I can't imagine why they decided to change such a lovely title.  Zelda and Emilie, was the phrase "oh my" used 57 million times in the book.  I am wondering if someone had enough brains to at least edit that out of the original version.  Gah, just thinking about it makes me twitch.  It was actually painful to read, and I don't know why I did it.

My favorite fanfiction was Emancipation Proclamation by Kharazzmatik (or something like that).  I heard it is getting published too, but I am sure they will cut most of it because that was the longest thing I have ever read.  The writing in this one is probably horrible too, but I liked the story too much to notice one way or the other.

  • Okay, so GOZF and EM, what should we read, if we want to read something from this genre?

It was good, but OMG, it dragged on and on and on.

  • Email sent, I can't seem to find books 2/3 so I'll have to do more of a search when X goes to bed.

Pretty much anything else in the entire world. Really.

One of my favorites (that has a plot, likeable characters, decent writing, and actual hot smutty smut) is Passion by Lisa Valdez. It's in the "historical romance" genre.

Not knowing what you're into, this is kind of hard to say.  Honestly, I'd recommend picking up some anthologies of short stories.  Some are more fetish-oriented, some are not.  And if one story sucks, it's just one of many.  No big deal.  You'll get to know what you like, what authors you like, etc.

    That's my advice.

Also:  Macho Sluts.  The largeprint edition.

I promise I am just skimming to see the trainwreck. I trust your judgement.

    tee hee!

The Story of O by Pauline Reage and Delta of Venus by Anais Nin are good places to start if you want some decent erotic bdsm fiction. I do wish that someone would re-translate 'O' though, the original translation is not great.

  • My inner goddess agrees with Zelda & Emilie. 100000%. And I read a lot of trash in this genre, whether I should admit it or not LOL... this author missed the mark and had terrible writing on top of it. I have NO idea how it's done so well.
