what the eff? people that know about credit scores and such.
so i got a letter in the mail today from the gas company saying that that can't provide service in my name because of my credit score.
this is the first i had heard that my score was low, so i ran my report and got my score. there is a 400 point discrepancy in what they said they got and what the one i got from experian is.
ummmm...does anyone know why that might happen?
Re: what the eff? people that know about credit scores and such.
Did the letter ask you to go to a special website or anything?
It could be a phishing letter.
I would also first check that they ran the right person. If that isn't the problem ask them which company they run your credit through and then pull up your score/file through them and see what is going on.
Daycare is SO exhausting!

no, it was the gas company that came out and put the gas tank to the pool.
i knew there might be discrepancies between companies, but not that much.
1: Make sure the letter is legit. There are scams like this all the time. This seems fishy, because utility companies have very strict laws to follow about denying service, due to heat or air being so necessary for many people's survival. They can't even turn off service during certain months, no matter how in debt your bill is. To deny service flat out seems highly suspicious to me.
2: Like others said, the difference between the scores should be minor (within 50 points, max!)
3: If this is legit, and they still say they can't provide service, make sure they have the right social security number. Also offer to show them your paid copy of your credit report.
1. Call and verify the letter is real and not an error. My gas company employs morons and I get letters of denials from them every time I move.
2. Ask them which version of which bureau they are using. Are you sure they used experian. there are tons of versions of all the bureaus and I've seen greater than 200 point differences just by using a different verision of the same exact file.
