Dad wires son to uncover teacher bullying

http://www.wxyz.com/dpp/news/national/video-father-wires-son-to-prove-hes-being-bullied-by-teachers

Stuart Chaifetz's son, Akian, is a 10-year-old autistic boy who is in a classroom with other autistic students. His parents kept receiving e-mails/letters from the school about his outburts and hitting teachers or aides. A behaviorist was brought in to "test the limits" of the child, but even when tempted, the boy wasn't reacting like the teachers said he was.

So, the father took matters into his own hands and wired his son. He sent the entire recording to the school district. The Aide was fired, but the teachers were just moved to other classrooms.

It is heartbreaking, imo, because these students cannot go home and tell their parents what happened at school that day. However, the teachers are talking about how much they drank last night, they tell Akian to shut his mouth, and at one point call him a bastard,

  • I teach special Ed and this breaks my heart ESP since I teach severe and profound disabilities.  No one deserves to be treated this way .  I have met several people that do treat students this way bc they feel they are too"spoiled" and that's why they act how they do.....ugh no student or parent deserves that.  A holes!

  • Awful, just awful.  Those poor kiddos.  I can't understand why the others weren't fired.  They had to have known that he would go public with the information.  It'll be interesting to see what happens now.

I will never understand why some people go into teaching.

  • I just read this article online, too. It is so sad and heartbreaking, that someone can do this to a child.

I really think there is a small population who go into it to continue to feel like the big dog. They acted like that in school and can't handle a world where they would just be equal to their peers. So they go into a field that allows them to belittle people with less power. Again I think this is a very small population but there are enough stories to make me wonder if this is actually the case.

  • That is really sad.

  • This is terrifying to me. My DD1 has autism. She's high-functioning and verbal, and hopefully won't ever have to be in a SN-only class -- which I hope will protect her somewhat, although it opens her up to more bullying from classmates. But it still scares me to think of what teachers or other adults could do (or kids, for that matter) and she wouldn't be able to fully describe it to me, might not realize she should tell someone about it, and might not be believed if she did.

These are the most vulnerable of kids, and it is utterly disgusting that they can be treated that way by "educators" and those people are  still employed.

  • I work with a few kids with autism and special needs.

They are amazing. That's all there is to it. This whole thing is heart-breaking.

That dad showed amazing restraint. Honestly, I wish that he sue the school to get the entire room of teachers fired.

  • That's really sad.  I'm glad they got caught.  It's also sad that a parent would allow an anus-licking dog to lick his child's mouth.

Seriously? That's what you're taking from this?

I cannot come up with anything coherent to say about this video. I'm so angry for that boy and his dad.

That poor boy.  I hope going public will embarrass the district into doing more to address this.

    And WTF?

    Thanks for sharing this link.

It said he sent his son to school with a wire on February 17 (and soon sent a copy of the recording to the district and then pieced it together to make the video I posted). I'm sure once the media found out, they decided to fire everyone involved.

  • And just like that .. My day is ruined.

    So thanks!
