  • Yup, that's pretty offensive/insensitive.

  • She was doomed to be trash from the start. Texanna? And I love that only white people from southern states are all "it's not offensive it's HISTORY"

Ok. So stop living in the past. Save the dress for your party at Daughters of the Confederacy.

  • Absolutely it's too offensive. It's also ugly.

What a sad, ignorant little girl.

  • By her logic, I totally should've worn a dress festooned with swastikas, since my grandmother is first generation german american. It's HISTORY, y'all!

  • I'm not quite sure whether it's offensive, but it's so fug she deserved being banned from prom anyway.
  • It's offensive. I would have let her in anyway because I strongly disagree with government censorship but she deserves to be shunned by her peers and called a redneck.

ETA:  Are those flip-flops on her feet? FFS.

Oh no, it's not offensive at all to go around wearing what is basically a symbol of racism. Nope, not at all. Indifferent

  • Yes, it is offensive - and likely against school rules. Ours state no drug, alcohol, or hate symbol attire allowed.

Sorry, I should clarify I'm not from the US and not aware of the symbolism behind that flag so I thought I couldn't really comment on that part.

  • Oh, gurl.  Flip flops, too.

    (Yes, of course it's bad.)

  • I would say so.

That yellow dress is kind of offensive to me too though. Blehh.

  • It's that fatuous look on her face that makes my palms itch.
SO SINGS MY SOUL *WHAM!* MY SAVIOR GOD TO THEE *WHAM!* HOW GREAT THOU ART *WHAM!* HOW GREAT THOU ART *WHAM!*
  • Yes, it's incredibly offensive.  What's more, she knew it would be inflammatory and decided to risk it anyway.  she's an assh*le.

  • Andplusalso, that isn't the Confederate flag. In fact, there is no such thing as an official Confederate flag that was flown in battle by all of the Confederate army. There were many different flags for the different divisions and states. Anyone who thinks that's THE flag and THEIR heritage is an ignoramus.

  • The comments make me want to die.

So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

  • Where in the world did she get the dress?  Did she make it?  Is someone actually selling that dress?

    Offensive for any occasion.

Unless I'm reading Huffington Post, I rarely scroll down to read the comments because they almost inevitably make me want to weep for humanity.

  • THe comments below the article TOTALLY slay me.  And yes, it is offensive, "history" or not.

  • as a white person form the south, i just... uuugghhh.... this is a hot debate and I think its just another tool to start controversy. The Dixie Outfitter tee shirts have been popular around here for as long as I can remember, (have little rebel flags on the front, some kind of redneck picture on back) and those are banned from my local school too.

sad to say, there are still men who claim to wear white sheets around here. :(

    Exactly!

There were at least six confederate flags throughout the incredibly short history of the confederacy.

This one, however, has been primarily used by the KKK so really.

I went to the dixie outfitter site once and I actually felt ill and gross after being there. They are sooooooooooo much worse than the handful of tees people actually see outside of that place.
