We are totally revamping our teeny tiny master bedroom. We have a 50s ranch, so small rooms, and our master includes a half bath on which there is white beadboard on half the wall. Our bedroom also does not get a lot of light due to position, so enlarging the windows wouldn't have mattered much even though i considered it....
DH and I both like American Drew Sterling Pointe for furniture. We still need to measure, but I assume we'll buy the queen panel bed, two 2-drawer nightstands, triple dresser, drawer chest and mirror - we are both leaning towards the landscape mirror. The salesperson suggested this line since the quality is great and the scale is a bit smaller, ideal for an older home. I think the style is transitional - and I can really alter the room based on colors and linens and accessories.

first problem: we cannot choose between maple, cherry and black. dh is anti-two-toned pieces, so it must be solid, and neither of us feels particularly swayed. A friend told me that black and cherry will always look dusty, and maple will be pretty easy to maintain and match to - thoughts?
second problem: i thought if i chose a wall color and carpet color/texture, it would be easier to choose a wood tone to go with it....but i don't know where to start!
Can you recommend a great wall color that won't make the room feel like a cave but also isn't yellow like it is now? i want something fresh and trendy, yet sort of neutral. Maybe a gray? Or beige? Slate blue? It's hard to tell online what colors really are, so I wanted some suggestions to go look at paint chips. will likely go with BM paints. Trim is white and will stay white.
Room must be carpeted - any tips on what and how to choose that? We installed a taupe carpet 3 years ago and it was expensive and looks like crap - we don't even wear shoes in the house, and the room is not used much - so i need to learn how to choose better! At the same time, we carpeted my odler daughter's bedroom (plush) and the playroom (berber) and they still look great.
Please help me make my room pretty
Thanks!
Re: Help me with master bedroom design/plans! very long....
That set has almost a mission feel to it with the decorative vertical pieces on some of the nighstands for example. Mission furniture would be in a cherry or oak color. Personally I love cherry. It's classic and has a warm rich tone that will look good with lots of colors. Maple would be my second choice but it more of a modern wood choice if that is the look you're going for. Buying quality wood pieces (as you say these are at least) and having a painted finish defeats the purpose of buying a quality piece IMO. Painted pieces will show every dent and scratch and need to be touched up every few years and replaced eventually in +15 years. Stained hardwood won't. It' can be in rough shape up close and still look good for many, many years. Really bad spots can be spot sanded and restained if needed or the whole piece can be refinished fairly easily.
We have been collecting solid select grade cherry wood bedroom furniture and in our new master bedroom we're going with a warm neutral color scheme to highlight the beautiful wood. The walls will be a ivory or soft cream color and we're looking for a traditional Persian style rug with lots of pattern in a tan color with lots of accent colors like red, yellow, and green. In your case I would go with a tan berber carpet with a pattern made out of different height loops or an actual pattern of two different colored tans in a diamond or morish tile pattern (see second image).
Here's some inspiration pictures I have saved:
All from my pinterest board. Our bed is a four post bed with no top rail very similar to the beds in the series you're looking at. Our bedroom isn't that big (13'x16') but it adds a bit of drama to the room. DH has always wanted a four post bed and I'm glad I caved on that one. ; ) We're keeping everything simple by only having one dresser in the space and having a big walk in closet with built in drawers (it's what worked best with the shape of the space). Then we'll have two nightstands and a small upholstered chair in the corner.

your response is helpful - thank you!
i understand what you are saying about the painted black finish- you're right, there is a mission feel to this.
i kinda like the idea of it being more modern. i think i also need to ask the store for the wood swatches to get a better idea, since we'd be ordering this sight unseen!
i told dh that i wanted berber or a pattern - and he told me it would feel like a hotel lobby - lol! i'll have to point out that i might be on to something design worthy
thanks for sharing your pins too!
