Happy Hump Day. How's everyone doing?
Me, I'm shiitting bricks just thinking about this half marathon on Saturday. The good news - the weather is supposed to be PERFECT; 50 degrees and not too much sun. The course looks easy. The bad news - everything else. I know I should not be running these last few days before the race, but both my long run attempts this past weekend were truly awful. I had bad knee pain, so bad I had to stop running and I had to take the bus home after my second attempt. Today was the first day I ran since then and just tried to do an easy 3 miles - I felt fine with my knees taped up with KT Tape, but I will pretty much have to forget the time goal I had been working really hard towards (well, up until a few weeks ago). It's only my first half so no matter what I run, it will be an instant PR and I'll have a time to beat for next time, but I'm just so frustrated.
Also, I dropped a full (but thankfully small-ish) bucket of paint on my foot and ankle this morning, so I'm pretty much a walking disaster and fully expect to hobble to the start line given what a clumsy week I've had so far overall. ![]()
As for eating, it's fine. Weight maintenance eating doesn't suck as much as weight loss eating, although weight loss eating never really "sucked" as much as I expected it to. This weekend, I will go all out though. My birthday is on Friday (the big 3-0, weeee!) and all I want for dinner that night is pizza from one of the best pizza places in NYC and an Italian ice for dessert from the best Italian ice place in NYC. And then after the half, I'll eat everything in my kitchen and then take at least 5 days off from running since I don't have to start training for anything else until marathon training starts up in early July. I feel burned out from running so I definitely need a bit of a break, and may resume lifting again.
Hope everyone has been having a good week!

Re: # - Rascal Avoidance Club check-in
The fitness challenge at my PT job started Monday. I got weighed in yesterday and have a ton of work to do.
I have worked out the past three mornings. I'm trying to make it a habit, so 21 times in a row is the goal.
Food is good lately. Minus a drunken run thru at McDonald's on Saturday morning at like 2:30 am. It was so delicious the fries were hot, and the milkshake was divine. Outside of that incident of weakness, my sugar intake has severely decreased. More protein, fruits, etc.
I also set my phone image to my inspiration (current Jordin Sparks) so when my alarm goes off, I see her trim and slim and feel just a bit more inspired to wake up and work out.

Good luck with your half! I've never done one, so I don't really have any advice to offer, but I am so impressed with those who can do it! I've run 13 miles on my own, but I can't even get through a 5K race without having a panic attack...I'm just not a racer.
And HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I hope the big 3-0 is awesome. Mine's coming up in January and I'm not dreading it like I thought I would. And omg I love Italian Ice. LOVE.
I'm going pretty well. I'm in my last week of "on-ramp" for CrossFit. I'm running 6 days a week, about 35 miles a week now. I run before work and I CrossFit MWF after work. Monday, we did 10-1 thrusters and 1-10 burpees (10 thrusters, 1 burpee, 9 thrusters, 2 burpees, etc). I did it with 65 pounds and thought I was going to die. I tried to take the weights off my bar, but the guy was all, "no no no...you can do it." I somehow managed, but just barely. I was so so proud of myself in the end. I was the only woman in the class to finish, and I beat half of the guys!
My weight is doing really well, somehow (it's always a struggle). Been really careful with food, and weighed in this morning at 121. I was 119 last Wednesday, but 121 isn't bad. I was 136 in late October, so this is a real improvement. I notice it most in my midsection, but also in my arms. I'd love to be 115, but I might have to be satisfied with 120-ish, because I'm having a lot of trouble getting under 120 without hating life.
Can't wait to start real CrossFit workouts! I'm sure they'll make me want to die, but the confidence boost I got from Monday is something I won't soon forget, and I'm loving it.

SMo - I still satisfy my McD cravings when I get them from time to time, so you're not alone. If I didn't, I'd go nuts.
Katie - Thanks! I'm shocked you run 13 miles while NOT running in a race. I'm more likely to stick with the run if I'm racing than if I'm not. Great work with the lifting!

<a href="http://www.thenest.com/?utm_source=ticker&utm_medium=HTML&utm_campaign=tickers" title="Home DI was still going strong on workouts until Monday. I have strep so I'm taking the week off to rest. I feel very restless after working out hard for 6 days/week to nothing this week.
I increased my calories from 1700 to 2200 and the scale finally budged a little bit. Although I'm seeing a good drop in inches as most of my clothes are falling off me now. It feels good!
Happy birthday!
I love the idea of putting an inspiration photo on my phone. Mine is Jessica Biel - before she got all crazy muscular.
I had to look up burpees. I've done those before but didn't know what they were called. I really hate them, BTW.

Good luck with the half! I dropped a canister of fireplace fuel on my foot 5 days before my last half and PRd by 16 minutes, so maybe it is lucky!
I envy people who do Crossfit. Someday it will fit into my schedule.
I've got a good schedule of speedwork, tempo runs and long runs set now, with cross training of spinning and biking on off days or double workout days. It is going well.
My next race is the Color Run 5k. Will be my son's first race in the jogging stroller - he loves the jogging stroller, and I have a feeling he'll love the race too.
Marie-good luck on your half! You CAN do this. And more importantly, happy early birthday! The big 3-0 isn't too bad, IMO
Katie-you had better not turn into one of those crazy Crossfitters. mmmkay?
My half was this past weekend...I didn't quite have the race I wanted to, but finished in 1:53:57 which while almost 2 minutes slower than my PR is still a damn good time and I'm happy with it. I did have some time goals in mind but my #1 goal was to finish the race happy and I accomplished that. I won't lie, the fact that Party Rock Anthem came up on my iPod 1/4 mile from the finish line helped immensely
Besides a couple of 5ks, I don't have any "big" races planned until my fall half (which will probably be the one here in town...again) so my goals are shifting to more yoga and strength stuff and being better about what I'm putting in my gut...again. My sister's wedding is 3 1/2 months away so rocking that strapless BM dress should help motivate me, even when its so hot out that the last thing I want to do is run. I have a couple of yoga Groupons for places close to my house that I need to get in gear with using so that may help too.
My biggest struggle is going to be food. Damn food. Last week, I got on the scale to discover that I am finally back to less than 10 lbs away from where I want to be for my sister's wedding (aka my wedding day weight) so I need to keep it the F up.
Dude, it's way too late for that. I am drinking a protein shake right now. No, I'm not kidding. I'm not going to go all paleo, but Chip and I have both drunk the Kool-Aid (he's been going to the 6 a.m. WOD). However, you will be pleased to know that lots of CrossFitters wear knee socks in bright colors. Saw a guy in these last week:

Good luck with your half! You'll be great.
H and I had beer bread and sharp English chedder cheese for dinner yesterday...
That tells you how it is going.

I have GAINED 10lbs in 3 weeks. The OB told me to cut the crap out of my diet.....and she's right
The two creme eggs from easter I had as a midnight snack didn't help....
I've been advised to avoid any further weight gain if possible. I've got 3 weeks to go. I realize this will be tough with water retention, but if I watch my salt and get back out walking this is feasible. My OB is really supportive - not snarky - which is awesome. She also advised cutting out white carbs - good carbs only. I've been terrible with breads, etc. lately.
Hello everyone. Marie, I'm so impressed with you! And KatiesCats. And SBP.
I'm doing well - back in the gym at least 4 times a week. I need to find something I love. I like lifting, but haven't found something I like to do for cardio. I think 3 times a week is the most I'll do for lifting, so I really need to find something I enjoy doing for another 2 - 3 times a week. I even bought Zumba for x-box, but we don't have enough space for using a kinect in our living room, so that was a fail. Our apartment complex has tennis courts, but I'm not good enough to get a real workout in while playing. Oh well. Maybe I'll start some sort of boxing.
Food consumption is also better. I'm eating more veggies thanks to the CSA, but I'm still fighting my sweet tooth. I've lost about a pound in the last week. So yay! I'm just fighting for those last 10 pounds, so I know it's tough and that I can't get too discouraged if it doesn't come off easily.
Sally - it does seem so counterintuitive, but I'm not surprised that you've been able to shed some weight while increasing your calories. Congrats!
SBP - Nice work at the meet, the story of PTS cheering for you makes me heart melt.
Lori - Congrats on your half! I am so jealousE of you, you are fast.
LG - Good luck during the home stretch!
Moxie - Boxing sounds great, it's something that I think I will try once I'm done with marathon training and want to look for new cross-training opportunities. People who box always look hot, lol.

<a href="http://www.thenest.com/?utm_source=ticker&utm_medium=HTML&utm_campaign=tickers" title="Home DAin't no shame in the protein drinks...I have an unhealthy adoration for Click Vanilla Latte protein powder. Which reminds me, I need to order more. And yeah, if you went paleo you might starve...its not exactly vegetarian friendly is it?
LOVE those knee socks...can you ask the guy where he got them? If we need to go knee sock shopping for you, I vote Target. They've got cute patterns, and they're usually only $2.50/pair.
Marie, good luck! You'll do awesome!
SBP, congrats on the meet! PTS sounds like a great cheerleader, and good job on shaving time off!!
I had an awesome week last week. I am officially down 15lbs, and in even more awesome news, I dropped my cholesterol 90 points. I'm now down in the normal range on all my cholesterol numbers, and I cried a little when I found out. I am so beyond excited about that it's not even funny. No meds!! To celebrate, I had a steak and it was sofuckingdelicious I can't even describe it.
Now I'm even more motivated to keep going on this path, and my new goal is to focus on dropping my body fat. Obviously also to keep the cholesterol numbers down, but that's no longer the priority focus.
I just registered myself for a swim/bike duathlon in June. Holy hell.
And thanks to SBP's encouragement, I am joining the master's swim team here next week.
I am pretty excited about my health and fitness life right now.

Have a fantastic birthday!
Smo~ I love having fitness inspirations. I am super embarrassed to admit who my firness inspiration is ;0
It looks like everyone is really on the road to healthy habits. I am in awe.
I joined Weight Watchers this weekend. I think I have had enough of putting others before me. Wish me luck ladies.
Everyone's kicking azz! Nice work.
I ate 8 big peanut butter cookies last night because I had a crappy day.
Other than that, I've got my marathon coming up next weekend and I'm not sure what's going to happen after that. I've been eating SO much while training, and cutting back is going to be tough.
Yes,I'm smiling...I'm a marathoner!

This is late in the thread but I do have a QOTW:
How do you keep from getting bored with your work out? I've been doing this kickboxing since September. It started out as a 10 week program and then I signed up for six months for maintenance. Everything is the same all the classes are the same, the music is the same, etc. Plus the classes I can get to are after work. I am a morning work out person. When I'm done with work, I just want to go home and put on pjs and chill.
My membership at this current kick boxing place is up at the end of May. I've been researching for almost a month and I still haven't found a new place. I thought I found a new place but they want to charge me $70 / month and I have to commit to a year! Or I could pay $90 a month with no commitment. That just seems a little high to me. Very frustrated.

my read shelf:
Hmmm, I struggle with the same thing. Is there any chance there is a normal boxing gym around where you live? I really enjoyed my boxing workouts and there wasn't really a music or routine, but a guy doing drills on the bags and what not with you. It's fun, a bit different, and a great workout. Some of the no-frills ones can be decently priced, too. I found one where you could go wherever from 9 am to 7pm and work with a trainer in small groups (or alone if no one was there at the same time).
What did you first like about the kickboxing class? Why were you motivated in the beginning? Maybe look for similar things to that. I know I got a groupon for Houston recently for morning bootcamp classes.
Is it the kickboxing workout you are bored with, or the specific classes that you are stuck going to because it's become the same thing all the time? (and yes, $90/month for kickboxing sounds insane)
Are you open to trying something new, workout-wise? If you are, I'd look around for a boot camp, or maybe even a gym with a great class schedule that fits in to your schedule better. Something new might shock your body a little bit and let you mix it up.
Do you love the class aspect, or would you try kickboxing DVD's at home a couple mornings a week?
You situation sounds so sucky , because it sounds like you are only bored because of the classes/music not the workout. It might be worth mentioning to the management at the gym too...that you used to love coming, but now you're considering canceling your membership because you are bored and you feel like you aren't getting anything out of it.
It's specifically the strength-training classes because it literally is the same exercises, I could do them in my sleep. Kickboxing is fun, just he nature of the exercise doesn't really allow that to be "routine" as much I guess. But strength training is my huge weakness. Cardio is much easier for me plus I run on the weekends. The kick boxing and strength training has done wonders for race times and that's a huge benefit to me. I think I am going to mention it to the gym owner.
