Hello ladies!! back with a question

I am so happy to see so many recognizable faces/names here!!! I am back with revengance! moved to a new house with probably more projects than the previous, so as spring is approaching, what is more important to you-- indoors (painting decor) or outdoors (landscaping)?

Re: Hello ladies!! back with a question

  • It depends.  Is the inside ridiculously ugly, paint chipping, peeling wallpaper, or is it livable for now with decent paint, and carpet in good shape? Is the yard super overgrown to where you need an entire overhaul, or is it just plain and boring?

If they're both livable and ok, but not ideal, I'd go for inside.  I spend a lot more time looking at the inside of my house than the outside.

If one is terrible, and the other is livable, re-do the one that really needs it.

  • I am just posting on this board for the first time in MANY months too.  I missed it here, there are so many friendly people on this board:)

Right now we have a split agenda, we're working on painting our daughters' bedrooms and getting DD #2's big girl room put together as well as getting the grass and flower beds looking good.  I would really love to build our deck this spring, but I don't see that happening quite yet.

  • Welcome back!  I like to tackle the inside first because that's where I spend most of my time.

I agree. Sure, spring is perfect for doing landscaping, but if the inside is just not livable, I'd focus on that. I know that we haven't had a lot of rain here so far this spring, but you can always work on the exterior and then do painting when it's rainy.

  • The outside isn't terrible, we took care of the overgrown mess and recently got seemless gutters and painted the exterior, its just blah and uninviting.

The inside we're in process of main bath renovations, and I would like to re-paint the main spaces (LR, kitchen, hallway) and do a major rehaul on the office and master bedroom. The kitchen is so outdated other than the appliances, I would love new cabinets and countertops.

There is so much on my to-do list I don't know where to begin, I just feel if the outside was more cheerful I may be more inclinded to get the inside going.

I think this is your answer.  I would do the outside! :)

  • Inside, hands down.  I have such terrible allergies that I don't really enjoy being outside.  We have low-maintenance stuff and only replaced essentials (new roof, mailbox, fence, ect).  I'd love to get some patio furniture but I usually spend money on indoor stuff first.
  • This response is late, but maybe it contributes something.  Have you thought about MN's planting season?  My understanding is you guys only have about 3-4 months to grow something before it's too cold?  Fall may not be a viable planting time for you because the extreme cold may kill everything new, so you may have to do everything now to give it a couple months in the ground.
