NDR: Job vents

I don't hate my job.  I work from home, on my schedule, and it is very flexible.  The work isn't difficult and most of the time is quite interesting.

But it makes me so stressed out.  Without going into too much detail (just in case there are lurkers, etc), I rarely get paid on time, my paycheck $ amount is completely unpredictable (ranging from Whoo-hoo to OMG, how am I going to pay my bills), and one of the employees I work alongside is completely useless.  I don't want to quit because like I said, the flexibility just can't be beat.  But the $$ stress and stupid co-irker makes me want to throw things, and lately I've been taking it out on everyone around me (including some folks here, sorry about that).  Ugh.  Calgon take me away.

Anyone else got something work-related to vent about?  It's rainy here so it seems like a good day to let it all hang out.

Re: NDR: Job vents

  • That is frustrating. I started working PT in another office to help out and to train someone new. I went there every Tuesday and Thursday for like a week and a half before I had to bring up a paycheck. And then, it was "oh, I only pay on these days." One of those days had JUST passed. And he said nothing. I could have flipped my lid. He's a nice guy, just not very organized and he doesn't do much of the work himself.

  • I hate working for a woman.  Her mood is so unpredictable. Last Friday she got mad at me for giving out her COMPANY cell phone number to someone when she is the only one who could answer the question (she was out of office).  Then 20 minutes later she sent an apology email.  WTF?  It also makes me crazy when she makes the biggest deal if I make the smallest of mistakes ("Hey you need to be more careful doing this small mundane task!"), and then when she makes one (big), it's all "Oops, silly me!".

I hate the ridiculous busy tasks another boss (my job is very Office Space sometimes- I have 3 different 'bosses') gives me.  "Please update one line in this Excel sheet and resend".  Um..what?  You could have done it yourself in less time it took to compose this email.

I hate how my office is like high school sometimes.  It's very clique-ish.  We have a small office of like....12, it's annoying.  Grow up people!

  • I just had a coworker tell me the reason a system won't let us do something is just because.  No regulation or anything to back it up.  I asked what my response should be when I'm shown as non-compliant.  She wasn't sure.  Hopefully she's checking right now.  I've only had to ask her at least 6 times about this one issue.

And the issue deals with a big wig, so I would rather not have to back to them again.

I hate working for a woman.

I hate to say it, but I have never liked working for women. I find that the ones I have worked for feel threatened or something by the other women in the office and are especially bitchy to them.   They are great to the guys, though.

  • Also, I don't like that I work "with" someone who is 20 years old and is skating by on the fact that her mom works for the company.

Calling in sick 2 days in a row (after being reprimanded in another office for not staying on task and completing your work load on a Monday) and THEN posting on FB about how you fit a grill in the back of your convertible AND letting your friends tag you in a video showing you were out partying at 11:10 p.m. on a Monday night and eating spoonfuls of cinnamon as a dare while you have 2 coworkers as your friends is just dumb.

She was supposed to get fired, but the agent she works for on M/F decided to give her a warning, even though Kansas is an at-will state and she can be fired for any reason at any time. I just sent screencaps of ALL of the stuff she's been doing the last 2 nights to someone else I work with who will be showing her T/W/TH boss so he won't back out on firing her.

Oh, and if you really wanted to keep this job, you should have gotten your license (AS REQUIRED BY LAW) already since you've been here since last August.

I feel better, my pent up rage is slightly less volatile lol.

  • I work in a school. 2 days a week I deal with expelled deliquents. Another half day I do student teacher supervision. The rest of the time I fill in on Sub pay.

When it comes to subbing, I just go where they send me in the office. I don't keep track, I don't only "do" certain rooms, I don't have certains times or have a list of "requirements." There's very few rooms I actually hate and the one or two I do, meh it's 8 hours out of my life..I'll deal.

Some of the subs do and it's annoying as sh*t. If you want your job people, just do it. The old ladies I give a pass too...(HS kids are rough when you're 80 I'm sure) but still..give it up already. The young just out of college ones are the worst to me. Dude...this is your only job. You're too young for "requirements" and don't you want the job experience? And the fresh grads come to me all the time saying..."Why can't I find a job?" "Can you write me a reference?" "Why do you get to fill in on sub pay more than the rest of us?" HELLO people.

I feel bad for the poor secretary. She's always shifting people around. Me and one other girl are the two out of all the subs that don't care where we go.

It's nice they appreciate the flexibility...but dammit..sometimes I'd like an "easy" room for a change to.

    End. Rant.

  • I could go on and on but you never know who's reading, right? I have some very challenging students this year and today had to write someone up for like the 6th time this year. I've never been into writing up students and have done more this year than all my other years combined! I'm sure the powers that be must not be too impressed with me, but I really don't have a choice when poor choices are being made over and over again.  And I haven't been observed yet and that's stressing me out since the year is almost over.

  • I am joining late but I am so sick of leaving late everyday! Yes I get paid until the minute I clock out but it's so annoying I still have to drive 20 minutes home I want to leave on time. I got my sh*t done and wrapped up I shouldn't have to clean up after everyone else.

This. except I'm salary so I don't get paid for the extra time that I'm here. Sweet little coworker, you knew that there were 5 jobs that needed to be processed to ship today, why did you only start working on it at 430?

I'm burnt out, I know a lot of it is personal and medical related I just flat out have no energy but I'm over it. No organization, no explanation, and no appreciation. I know its my job and I'm supposed to do it, but when the boss tells other people hey good job, I feel like I should get something too.  Last time I said something to the boss about feeling under appreciated he said "well your so awesome and so good I hold you to an almost unachievable standard to see how much you can do" Thanks....I think?

Oh yeah and the boss and his brother (my supervisor-ish) come in 30-45 minutes late any morning that they go to the gym.  I get the side eye when I come in 5 minutes late from the gym.

  • Coming in late, but ditto working for women. I currently work for 3 guys (a father, who's in his 70s and his 2 sons) and it couldn't be better. For the previous 6 years though I worked under and with almost only women. It was terrible; the managers always seemed like they were on some power trip and were so b*tchy all the time. And of course there was always drama. I don't think I ever want to work for a woman again if I can help it.

Maybe some of you who have problems working for women create the problems. As in, maybe you are more critical of and competitive with your female bosses. I just don't believe that women make worse bosses. I have worked for plenty of women and never found them to be anything but supportive. I've worked with all women on some teams and have only found the rare bird to be catty.

I was going to say, wow, we've got some sexist ladies on here! Perhaps it's your boss you have a problem with, not the entire gender? If it is the entire gender you have a problem with, we're really not as advanced society as I thought.
