Random FOTD, wine related

You know the twist off tops on wine bottles?   Those are actually called Stelvin Enclosures, named after the man that patented the idea.

Misconceptions often include those who think only cheap wine comes with those and all the best wines only come with a cork, but that isn't true!   Many top notch wineries are now using these b/c there is an increasing shortage of cork and this is more economical, not to mention it is more air tight than cork resulting in less tainted wine.

In fact you run the risk of corked wine if you are buying a white like a Pinot Gris that has a cork but a Stelvin Enclosure guarantees freshness of the fruits in white wines especially.

I spent years as a wine promoter, so this is all stuff I was trained on but I wanted to pass on the info and next time instead of calling it a "screw cap" you can sound super intelligent by calling it a Stelvin enclosure.  Wink
