So SIL mentioned buying crib bumpers today. I told her I thought I heard they were unsafe and that I thought pedis say not to have them. She replied that she had them and she was just fine, then went on to talk about securing them an inch high so baby can breathe if he gets stuck. She said she hadnt made her mind up, but since she came up with this whole way to do bumpers that is "safer" it sounds like she put some thought into this. I googled after the convo and found that crib bumpers are definitely against guidelines. I generally dont like to be pushy or preachy, normally I just keep my mouth shut because SIL and bro do lots of wonky things and its none of my business, nor do I care...but should I make an exception in this case and send her the info I found? Or just leave it alone since I already gave an opinion?
Re: Crib Bumpers
Leave it alone.
On the scale of things that can potentially kill your child crib bumpers are very very low on the list. Not worth it.
We did bumpers once the kids started rolling AND could lift up their head/chest sufficently on their own (6-ish months?) The only reason we did was b/c they would roll into the side of the crib and wake themselves up.
Both my kids are still alive at 3.5 years and almost 15 months.
Leave it alone.
What exactly are you saying here Crash? That we're more concerned about our kids hands/feet getting stuck in the slats than say, them suffocating?
You're getting a big f'ing eye roll from me on this, truly.
So let's say you DID have to deal with it? Would you have chosen to protect your babies limbs or their airways?
Just curious!
