The MM Board Gives Me Anxiety

I really need to stop reading over there. Every time I see someone post "Our monthly take home pay is $15k and we can't make ends meet and can't afford a house" I feel my heart race with nerves. I'd love to tell them my pay check isn't even $1k and watch them clutch their pearls.

Re: The MM Board Gives Me Anxiety

  • While I have gotten some GREAT advice from those folks, I am also fairly confident some of them would live by the light of one lightbulb they carried from room to room so as to not have to spend money on lightbulbs.  Like most things, MM moderation is key :-)
Seriously, people. If your faith in humanity is destroyed because your parents told you there was a Santa Claus and as it turns out there is no Santa Claus, you are an ignorant, hypersensitive cry baby with absolutely zero perspective. - UnderwaterRhymes
  • A lot of the other boards give me anxiety.

  • The ones that give me anxiety are "I only have 50K in savings, what do I do??"

But, after lurking over there for a couple years, stuff is sinking in. We recently overhauled our finances and I have gotten some good advice over there.

  • I'm too poor to post in MM.

  • My cell phone bill and eating out occurrences would gobsmack some of them.

  • Someday, I want to post my debt amount and watch them shrivel up and die. Or their head will explode.

  • There is great advice, but man, I am convinced some of them don't do anything fun - it's not in the budget! THAT MONEY COULD BE IN YOUR EFUND!

    lol true true

I read one post from there where someone described living paycheck to paycheck as not fully contributing to their 401k, IRAs, and savings each month. Huh?

    This exactly.

And the PP about being to poor to post over there is exactly me too.

I couldn't live the way some of them do. I don't think they are very realistic. And there are just some things that I will not "settle" for. Sorry, but I'm not using one-ply toilet paper because it's cheaper by $.03 cents.

  • I dont go over there either because I dont have $50K in savings and I like to spend on fun things.  I used to lurk until one girl posted her budget and she had grwat savings, good 401k, i thought she was set.  They told her she could contribute to charity more, and she already paid like $300 a month towards charities.  I then decided they must be insane, and it would take an act of God for them to spend money on anything fun.  I havent been back ::throws money in the air::

  • People only remember the Sisugals of the board.

The majority is not like that.

Especially a subset of us that go buck wild from time to time for "wants" and not "needs".

We just know to talk that crazy behind the scenes.

A lot of people don't post their budget because they know where they can improve, they just don't giveaf.uck
