I know, I know, it's different in every area of the country. I'm still interested in your experiences. FWIW, I live in an upscale suburb in the Midwest but I'd still like to keep costs in line.
We're in the middle of a master bath remodel. The plumbing for two sinks and the toilet are staying in place. Minor (less than a foot) changes to the shower and slight change to the tub. Estimate of $3,600, with us supplying all of the fixtures.Does that seem normal? We got two other bids - one came in at $1,500 one at $3,800. All the plumbers have good reviews.
(Demo, carpentry, flooring, painting and drywalling is being done by my brother. He doesn't typically do residential work, so he has no idea what the plumbing should cost.)
Re: Plumbing cost
Thank you! I tried to have the latest plumber break it down - because he said it was going to be one day of work. He won't. So even if somehow a foot or two of pipe , fitting and the permit cost $1,000, he'd be making $312 an hour. I mean, I knew plumbing was expensive but ????
Guess it's on to estimate no. 4.
I live in a Philly suburb, and got quoted $5k for labor for a complete demo to the studs and remodel of our small bathroom. Floor, drywall, tile, replacing all the lead pipes underneath, replacing all the fixtures, etc. So $3600 just for minor plumbing changes seems high.
Do you have angie's list in your area? It's totally worth the cost, and people post on there exactly what they had done and how much it cost, so you can get "estimates" that way without even having to speak to anyone. :-) I like it for when I'm wondering if it's worth it for me to hire someone to replace a light with a ceiling fan, etc.
