**Heavy Sigh**

Bad news: Insurance isn't going to pay for the flooding downstairs.

Good news: DS#1 works for a restoration company, so has equipment and co-workers at his disposal so they're going to dry out my carpets this weekend and replace the carpet pads.

The best way to do it would be to tear out all the carpets and re-do everything, but I can't afford the $17K to have that done, so we'll do the cheapest thing possible.

I'm so grateful DS has the job that he has.  : )

Re: **Heavy Sigh**

  • Can't you see if your DS would be willing to do all of the ripping out and staple removal for you, and then go to Home Depot or Lowe's and see if they have any of their " install carpet in the whole house for $100" promos running?  You'd still have to purchase the carpet and pad, but that might cut down on a lot of the cost...

Sorry to hear about your house!  The snow, and break up, has been unbelievable this year.

  • why are they not covering it

    can you appeal?

  • It's ground water.  Ground water isn't covered under my policy.  Personally, I think this is a state-wide emergency and the insurance companies should be paying for this.  We had a record-breaking amount of snow this year--all over the state.

  • YIKES. I'm sorry.

If you're going to sell in a couple years though, you are going to have to disclose that those are the same watersoaked carpets. I know you can't afford to replace the whole thing professionally, but can you maybe get to a carpet wholesaler/flooring warehouse/railroad salvage or whatever and get some new, not expensive stuff put in?

    ((hugs)) I'm sorry, Flex.

  • Yeah, that disclosure thing.  Ugh.

My son and I have talked about him buying my place.  He'd really like to do it.  He knows my place--he's made repairs to it in the past.  He's going to look into it.  He also said his dad might even buy it from me, and then he'd make payments to his dad.  I told DS that I'd give him a really good deal on it.  I'm not in this to make a bunch of money--it's just too big of a house for one person.
