looking for some help. We are putting up picture frame moulding in our dining room. First, do most people do square or rectangular shape, or does it even matter? Also, I have one wall with a window in the middle, would it be okay if the two frames on each side of the window are not the same as all of the others, or would that look weird? they would be the only ones on that wall. If you have done this, or have pics of yours, please give me your input!
Thanks,
Crystal
Re: picture frame moulding
This old house has a great article including all the standard ranges of measurements.
The principles are that you have a constant space above and below, a constant space between them, and the size of the frames on one wall are the same, but different on different walls. The spaces between do not change, the width of the frames change. And yes, they're usually rectangular (either tall or wide). With your window, it looks really great to have one or two short frames under it. Google images "wainscoting under windows"

I had picture frame molding through my last house. There is definitely a standard as to how far they should be space from each other (ours were 3 inches apart, and I believe up to 4 inches is recommended) but it's absolutely not necessary to keep them the same size on each wall.
I don't like tall skinny rectangles, I wanted longer, wide rectangles. I'll find and post pictures...
