Thoughts on voting needed

I live in PA and although I live in a highly populated suburb of Philadelphia, I suspect (perhaps incorrectly) that I do not live in an area that is going to have a huge increase in voting.  Wait times in the past two elections at the start of the day have been about 20 minutes.

I have two very young children and have two options based upon our schedule: show up super early (b/w 5:30 and 6am for a 7am poll opening) and get in line while DH is home with the kids and hope that I can get home by 8am so that DH can get to work, OR wait until 9:30 or 10am, which supposedly is a lighter voting time, and take the kids.

At this point I'm tilting toward the former because if the line turns out to be insane, I can always return later with the kids.  My babysitting options are almost nil.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Re: Thoughts on voting needed

  • I'd go with Option A, with Option B as a back up, as you suggested.  I hope the lines won't be too long for you and the kids, should you need to vote later.

  • Thanks for the input.

BTW, for those of you who don't have kids but plan to, here's a little insight: the thought of queuing up in the freezing cold for a few hours with no kids actually sounds like... a break.  Indifferent

  • I'd go early to be closer to the front when the polls open.

  • The thought of showing up farmer early sounds horrendous to me.

Any other parents that could switch off with you during the day?  Or go together and switch off watching the kids while the other stands in line?

I also think that during the day, it shouldn't be too bad.  I also bet that they might let you go ahead like they do on airplanes.  I can't imagine too many of those people in line would really raise a ruckus over you skipping ahead if the alternative is a couple of young kids who are bored and antsy.

I always go during the day and it's pretty much all senior citizens.  They're pretty laid back.

And this is why I'm terrified of children. Good luck!

    Ha!  True.

So, so true!  I'd go early, too.
