I planted a young prariefire crabapple in my yard. Plenty of morning through afternoon sun. It was doing fine and had buds all ready to go but instead of flowering they dried up. The ground is moist 24/7. Leaves 95% green and maybe 5% yellowed. I put a rubber Mulch ring around it and hammered in one of those Scotts tree fertilizer spikes. The spike is about 2 feet from the trunk since the dripline is so small.
Is there anything I can do at this point to make sure it doesn't die? Should I dig up the spike? Take ring off?

Re: Crabapple didn't bloom.
No freeze. It's been unseasonably warm if anything.
You don't need to dig up the spike, but I don't recommend you use those for anything. Aren't they for houseplants?? Regardless, I think they are a big waste of money.
If you just planted it this spring, it's probably just in shock from the move, planting, etc. Just let it be. It will need to acclimate, and it will do that just fine on it's own. Next year it will probably bloom normally.
