Help me help a coworker -- gift for 5 y.o.
Ok. My co-worker's girlfriend's parents just adopted a 5 year old girl. Which is awesome, and everyone's totally excited, and they're having a big, princess-themed welcome party for her.
My co-worker asked me what one gets a 5 year old girl. I said I had no effing idea, but I had some people I could ask. Don't let me down, ML.
What do the kids like these days?

Books! Nothing like them for a child. The more the better. Also, a pink tutu. and a rhinestone crown.
I'll be 34 in august, and I would still like this as a gift

Mee too! I have wanted a tiara ALL.MY.LIFE.
Craft projects are HUGE for my DD and all her friends (5 year olds).
Dress up stuff is fun. Books are big in our house, as are dolls.

Books or outdoor toys. I don't know what outdoor toys are cool these days, but the last birthday party I went to for kids that age, the most popular stuff was for playing outside (hopscotch set, giant glittery rubber ball, cardboard DIY playhouse). The parents looked ready to strangle the people who gave her a kazoo. Don't be that person.
If you already know she's awesome, this looks like a great gift. At least, I would have loved it at that age.

They also have Starry Night and some other "master" kits.

American girl doll that you can design to look just like her. But that takes time to order...so,
how about a CD boombox with a few CDs (Tangled, Disney songs, Taylor Swift etc), jewelry/keepsafe box
