Two questions for you.
1. I use Clinique foundation, and their palest shade is still too yellow and dark for me. What foundation do you use? I only apply on my smile creases (unfortunate hair removal accident in college) and chin. Sometimes nose.
2. The time has come where I'm going to venture into shorts territory. I usually have worn capris in the summer, but now that I've lost some weight, people will no longer run from me in the streets. But legs are WHITE and not in a pretty way. Can you recommend a good self-tanner that isn't too orange? Preferably something I can pick up in a Kmart or CVS.
Look with your special eyes.
Re: Pale ladies, please enter
I use Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse in Porcelain Ivory and its pretty white. You can get it at Target.
Can't help ya on the other one, I'm resigned to my whiteness and don't care.
I'm not super pale, but burn before I tan. I have several different foundations that I rotate between depending on where I'm going, the season, how warm I am going to get. How about a mineral powder foundation? They tend to blend in more easily than liquid from my experience.
The self tanner I use is not a drugstore product, so I won't even mention it unless you want to know. It is awesome and I am glad to pay a higher price for one that doesn't streak or leave me orange and blotchy.
I am thrilled with Almay Smart-Shade Anti-Aging makeup, it's done wonders for the quality of my skin.

Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
I use Bobbi Brown tinted moisturizer in Extra Light during the spring/summer, Alabaster during the fall/winter.
I don't use anything for my legs besides Bathina by Benefit (it's a golden pink color).
I have been thinking about trying this from Lush, though.
Ohhh...I've been wanting to try that. So you feel that it has been working well as an anti-aging product?
What color do you use? I also use clinique when I have a light tan, and noticed recently that they have a new foundation color, Linen, although I haven't tried it yet. I'm also very pale and alabaster tends to be a bit to dark for me.
At the moment I'm using Cover Girl trublend, shade 1. It's very neutral which is great. I've used Illamasqua in the past too which has an amazing range of colors.
Also, something I used to do a while back was mix a little white fundation (found at goth-type stores or ebay) in to my usual foundation. It would take the edge off and give me that nice porcelain colour without being completely washed out.
My legs are so pale I joke that I don't need a flashlight when the power goes out- my legs glow in the dark so there's no need.
I've recently started using Jergins. I LOVE it. Used it before I went to Savannah for St. Patrick's day and I was so happy with it. It's so gradual that it doesn't streak, and looks VERY natural.
As for make-up, I just use the lightest shade of CoverGirl.
I use mineral makeup in the lighest shade; I think it's Maybelline.
Jergens natural glow lotion--slowly adds color with no streaks or blotches. You quit when you reach a color you're happy with, then reapply once or twice a week to maintain
I'm hitting myself in the head. Why haven't I tried Almay before?
Well, it's toned the general condition of my skin - less breakouts and discoloration/redness. I have been able to stop using a yellow stick around the sides of my nose to conceal redness.
I haven't been using it for more than six months, so I'm not really sure of "anti-aging" stuff - I didn't have many wrinkles before and I don't have any more now...so... yes?
It's also really more like a tinted moisturizer than a foundation, which I like. I have a lot of fine hairs on my face that foundation makes look yeti-ish.
Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
I use bare minerals porcelain/extra light depending on the season.
I'm with SCC on embracing the pale, but I use jergens natural glow firming (at imoan's rec) when I have to dress up because it's all shimmery and nice. It's super subtle and doesn't happen overnight though.
I stopped bothering with foundation when I just didn't care anymore. I couldn't ever find anything that wasn't an odd shade or looked like I caked it on with a putty knife. I just use the lightest Cover Girl powder and that's it now.
I also liked the Jergens Natural Glow - it worked (until I broke out in hives after discovering something in the ingredients I'm allergic to). I did like the color I got from it though. And it was gradual, so not like you go from pale to tan with one swipe of the hand.
I have shade 1, and use Redness Reducer
I use Revlon foundation and not even the lightest shade, and it's pretty light.
I just let my white-ass lollipop-stick legs stick out in their glory! I don't even care that I'm probably blinding people.
Sounds like natural glow is the way to go, maybe.
I've used it before and completely forgot about it. Thanks!
And I am diligently writing down all the foundation/concealer recs. THANK YOU.
Also, for concealer I like to use an illuminator instead of a color because colors are often hard to match. The Maybelline eye illuminator is good and they also have one that's not for eyes that comes in just an illuminating "color" that I really like. It reflects light off the skin away from blemishes so it still takes away redness or dark circles without color.
1. I use neutrogena. I think the color is called Light Porcelain or something like that? I apply it with a q-tip and use it more like concealer, just on the areas where I am uneven since my skin freaks out if I wear a lot of makeup.
2. I don't use any of that stuff. If it's warm enough for shorts, it's bright enough outside that people should be wearing sunglasses, so I take no responsibility if the glare off my pale legs blinds anyone.
1. Neutrogena - blushing ivory. Like mamasaurus I don't put it all over my face, just over any discoloration or blemishes.
I use Bare Minerals on my face, year round/
As for the legs ... I'm the @$$hole that walks around with ghostly white legs. I don't look fabulous, but dammit, I'm comfortable.
I'm more than willing to start validating people's ideas when they start having ideas worth validating
1. I use Pur Minerals 4-in-1 foundation in Light.
1. My favorite thus far has been the L'Oreal True Match. I'm using Neutrogena right now, but it's not doing a great job of covering my dark spots.
2. I don't wear shorts due to paleness, massive amounts of cellulite, and some awful KP on my upper knees/lower thighs. Every self-tanner has streaked on me. If I want some color because I'm wearing a dress, then I use the Jergens stuff that builds up over time.

I agree that you should use a concealer rather than foundation. However, to answer your question, I wear the Clinique BB in the lightest shade instead of foundation.
For your legs, get this. It's seriously amazing. It doesn't streak and it doesn't budge until you wash your legs. It gives them really nice, natural color.

1) Try Giorgio Armani... they have lots of light shades. The foundation is really silky and beautiful.
2) I would invest in a air brush tanning system.. they sell them at Target or online for about $100.... it's much better application than self tanner and you can buy liter bottles online cheap for refills. I don't wear shorts or pants unless it's freezing or I am working out... I think skirts and dresses are more flattering and feminime.
I'm a redhead and as pale as they come. I use Revlon ColorStay in Ivory. I am also allergic to any self tanner, so I just go with the pale look.
