Suesue, can I hear more about your surprise wedding?
Re: Suesue, can I hear more about your surprise wedding?
Aw! Thanks for asking, I love the story (and for those who have read it before, just bear with my awing.)
We were living together for about a year or so. He had asked me, in October, what would I say if he asked me to marry him, and I got kind of pissy and told him that I did not play what if games, and if he really wanted to get married to have a date and a judge lined up and ask me then, and I'd give him an answer. So he dropped the subject, and I was fine with that. Then we planned a St. Patrick day party, and 9 days before hand, I came home from work and he was making dinner, and I asked him what was up with himmaking me dinner, and he said well I thought I'd better if I was going to ask you to marry me. I laughed, he laughed, and we said ok, let's get married.
And then he says let's get married at our party! all excited, and I said SURE thinking GREAT, no big dress, no cake, just a fun wedding at our house. And he says let's not tell anyone, let's make it a big surprise! and I said what the hell, what about my out of town family (which is parents, brothers, sisters ) and he says ok, you can tell them. I laughed, called them all and told htem about the wedding, told them it was a surprise and not to tell, and they came. We kind of let it get around town that we were going to announce our engagement, so everyone IN town, who didn't know about the wedding, were all hopped up to come.
Two days before the wedding, dh says are you going to get a dress? What about a cake? So I ran out and got an off the rack butt bow dress, and we picked out a cake from a nice little bakery, and got some tulips and clover for decorations. We hid the cake in the trunk of my car so no one would see it at the party till we announced the wedding part. The judge got there about 9, and we got married around 9:30; dh popped up and said HEY we have an announcement, we're engaged! and everyone clapped, and they all sipped champagne (I was in my room changing into my wedding dress), and then he says, we hate long engagements, so it's tonight! and I came out of our room and walked up and the judge married us.
The house rocked till about 3 am. It was an incredible night. Best, easiest, most fun wedding I was ever at.
I wore my dress to watch Kate and William get married, lol

Ohhh this story brought tears to my eyes. I love it. So sweet and wonderful.
My mom knew someone else who had a surprise wedding....
The story goes that the woman kept telling her boyfriend that she'd marry him if he planned it. They had been together eons (10-20 years) and had a bought a new house.
He started acting all weird, leaving the room for frequent calls, being secretive about banking stuff and the woman was suspecting an affair. One day he asked her out to dinner, and suggested she wear a specific dress she owned. She thought it was too formal for the dinner, so apparently he put it in the car in case she changed her mind. He took her to a church, where all of their nearest and dearest were waiting, in on the surprise. I think there were attendants and everything. She said yes. Boom, married. Then they had a big party, and the woman was so happy that she really didn't have to plan a wedding. She said she was really overwhelmed, because of his suspicious activities, but hindsight proved it was all the secret wedding planning with everyone she knew.
I always thought it was a fun story.

I also had a surprise wedding, sort of. Some people knew. Anyway, my MIL will never forgive me for not being allowed to control it, or understand that she was a huge motivation in doing it that way.
I loved your story!
Janie, that is an awesome story. Quesera! I didn't know you'd done this. Wasn't it fun? And so.much.easier.
I loved our day.
The only thing I would change is that I wish I had some more/better photos but otherwise, I have zero regrets. It was a blast and everyone says that our wedding was the least stressful event ever.
This sounds like so much fun.
I want someone I know to have a surprise wedding.
Daycare is SO exhausting!
