We never fly, last time was in 2005. What are some things I need know? Security tips what can I not have in carry-on that most people take on vacation with them? What about security what do I need to not have in my pocketbook to make things go as quickly as possible? We are taking our 5 y/o to Disney, we have enough to keep him entertained. He's bringing his Nintendo DS with headphones and our computer will be in carry-on so he can watch a movie. It's only 1.5 flight so he should be fine although this will be his first time flying.
Re: Airport tips please..
3-1-1 is the poster. You need a quart bag & inside you put your liquids & gels that are not more than 3 oz each. Each person gets their own.
I prefer to wear shoes that come on & off easily b/c you have to put them in the bins. You will also have to take off outerwear -- coats, sweaters, jackets etc. It's kind of a p.i.t.a.
Do not try to get through with liquids but there are some exceptions for kids. I don't have kids so I don't know the rules about juice boxes etc.

Are you checking your luggage? I know airlines charge a fee now but if I was traveling with a five year old and not comfortable with airports I would pack everything, check my luggage and carry on the bare minimum.
For the laptop you will have to take it out of the carrier if it's a large bag or keep it in the sleeve and place it in a separate bin/on the conveyor belt. With it only being a 1.5 hour flight, does he need the computer and Nintendo DS? During takeoff and landing he won't be able to use either one and it seems like a lot of electronics to take for such a short flight.
You'll have to put the computer in its own bin, so keep it handy. If you have a sleeve for it you can leave it in that. I'm not sure if the DS needs to go into its own bin, though.
Also you don't need to have your boarding pass in hand when you go through the scanner anymore, so once you show it and your ID earlier you can put them away.
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.

i agree. for a 90 minute flight the DS and laptop are overkill since he'll probably be only able to use them about 50 minutes.
you may not bring a 7oz bottle half full of liquid or gel. the 3.4 ozs or less need to be in those sized containers.
dont worry about the juice boxes etc.. through security. bring afew straws and buy him a bottle of juice once through security.
Every time I travel with my son we bring a cup with juice and they always let us through with it. They will usually test it to make sure it doesn't have anything crazy in the container, but it's still easier and cheaper than buying it once I get through security.
I'll tell you, traveling with a kid is hard, especially if you have a stroller, carseat, booster, carry on, etc. that is with you through security. My son is 20 months and has been on over 20 flights and I don't think it ever gets easier. Of course now they don't make him take his shoes off, so that's one less thing to worry about.
For umbrella strollers and carseats, you'll need to put them through the xray machine. Make sure your LO doesn't have anything in his pockets and doesn't carry anything through the scanner.
This depends on the airport. Both Houston (IAH) and Detroit wanted them out when you sent through the scanner (this was last week).
