My coffee table project = fail

I found a 4 foot round coffee table for $35. I stripped it, primed it and painted it. Last night I went to go put the last coat of paint on, and I see that it is all chipped up.

There are 2 big chunks missing on the edge of the top, and scratches and scuffs everywhere. I confronted DH by saying "Is there something you want to tell me about the coffee table in the garage?" and he played dumb. Then he finally was like , "Oh yeah....I knocked it over the other day but I looked and didn't see any damage."

ARRRRRGH. I was so furious I was shaking. He says he can repair it with putty but I don't see how. I have looked for a coffee table like that forever - a big round one is pretty rare to find for dirt cheap to refinish. It's not even small enough chips that i can just call it "rustic" it's two giant chunks missing from the top edge.

He's lucky he's so handsome cause boy was I livid.

  • What about sanding the spots down really good so they're flat and then glueing pieces on and sanding them down?

Can you create new pieces?  I guess it's hard to give suggestions without pictures. Haha.  I probably have no idea what I'm talking about.

  • I know I shouldn't laugh because you're upset about it, but your H's play dumb routine cracked me up. Like you wouldn't have noticed!

There's no way it can be salvaged?

  • Oh, that'd make me crazy!

But you probably can fill it with wood filler and repaint.

  • He should be able to fix it with Bondo or something similar.
  • My DH set my glass tart burner on the floor... And then set a chair on top of it and shattered it. Moving Fail.

Men. Can't live with them, Can't have heterosexual sex without them! :-p

  • I have rebuilt so many things with wood filler.  Seriously, I should start a business.  LOL!  I bet you can fill the dents and build up the edges with it.  Just do it in layers!
