  • My house had shades in every window when we moved in, and they are still there.

I have no experience, sorry! Prior to this, if we needed anything we bought $3 blinds from HD since they were rentals.

    LOL! :)

LLL - what did you go with blind chalet?  price? etc?

  • white wooden blinds for the kitchen. I can't remember the price, sorry. I remember that they were reasonable and you can order (free?) samples.

I will most likely use them again as we are moving soon.

    hi.
  • They have great prices!  But no design service...boo.  I need this b/c I don't trust myself nor DH to do the measurements for plantation shutter.

  • I answered in your post. I never go to that board bc I would be so overwhelmed with my compulsion to tell people what to do.

I was wallowing in self pity trying to figure out how to apply my useless BA to actual life. I was in a cafe and struck up a conversation with a woman who became my mentor. I upgraded my education but this was back in the days when there wasn't a degree for it, just a diploma so I slid under the line there. I worked under her for 5 years and then went out on my own.

That is amazing - I apparently need to spend more time doing my wallowing in coffee shops than at home.  Ha.  I just registed for RHODEC (for the THIRD time).  I actually want to be more on the soft furnishings side because I'm obsessed with fabric.  Obsessed.  Since I was like 7.

Furnishing this house is killing b/c I know what I want but feel like I am lacking just enough in my skills to not be able to make any decisions.  AKA I'm too type A/worried about making mistakes.  It's awesome to be me, let me tell ya.

  • That's awesome, good for you! Textiles were my area of expertise. I worked as a buyer for a Persian Rug importer and fell in love and made it my mission to teach people that you can indeed mix different patterns and colors. I really love choosing fabrics for people and sourcing textiles and putting them all together.

ETA: I have never met a designer with the capacity to do their own design work without help, it's very hard for some reason to make decisions for yourself when you do it all day long for other people. Plus, you likely have a broader appreciation for other styles than most people who subscribe to just one so it's hard to narrow your focus.

  • That's somewhat reassuing to hear, thank you for that.

Of course, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I win the lotto and then I can just pay Sarah Richardson to do my entire house.  Ha.

  • I just want to live in one of her houses, preferably the cottage on its own island. I didn't know you guys had her shows in the states, I thought it was just a Canadian thing.
  • Or that - either one I would be fine with.

Yes, we get her shows, but they are usually about a year old once they broadcast them here...we had a good run of them last year (Sarah's House, Cottage and some Sarah 101 and Design Inc thrown in there)...now per her FB page we won't get anything new until later this year :(

I actually went and looked at different options/brands at Home Depot & Lowe's, so I could see products in person (they also have books for each manufacturer/brand that you can look through for color samples and such), and then I purchased through www.blindsexpress.com

I wanted to get a quality product, but wanted to pay the least amount of money...I searched all over (Lowe's, HD, S&N, Blinds.com, etc.) and found that blindsexpress.com had the best selection, cheapest prices, and best discounts (on top of their cheap prices).

I received everything I ordered within 2 weeks and I was very happy with everything I purchased (Levolor Double Cell Shades, Bali Natural Shades, Norman Normandy Stained Wood Shutters)...

Not sure that this helps you since I didn't use one of the 3 places you are considering, but I figured I'd throw the info out there.  At the very least I can tell you that the person I spoke with at HD was very helpful, they can do the measuring for you if you want, and the ordering process seemed easy enough.  They sat and priced out several options for me, and I probably would have purchased from them if I couldn't have gotten everything cheaper online.

    HTH!

This is very helpful, thank you!  I've looked through the books at HD and quickly got overwhemled and walked out :)

Did you have someone install them or did you do the install yourself?
