Anywhere you have NO interest in travelling to?

We often talk about our top travel choices and that sort of thing, but we don't really talk about where we don't want to travel!

For places I've already been..

I have no interest in going back to either the Dominican Republic or Cuba as far as Caribbean holidays go - much prefer other islands and Mexico. I also have no interest in going back to Venice - been once! That was enough!

For places I've never been but have no interest in:

- Australia - and this might change, but for some reason I feel like I can do a lot of the same things in places that are closer & cheaper. I've had friends that went that kinda said the same thing. Obviously thats painting a large area with a big brush - so I could be enticed differently!!

- Myrtle Beach - everyone I know seems to go here golfing. I do golf but I just can't see going there for a holiday.

- Scotland - I'm not sure why. We had to pick between Scotland, London England and a few other places for Dh's work and I just had no interest in going. Perhaps this will change sometime.

What about the rest of you?

Re: Anywhere you have NO interest in travelling to?

  • Australia, London, Ireland.
  • I'm not really interested in the Caribbean or Las Vegas.
  • Las Vegas, Cancun and Hawaii

per DH- due to the gluttony for LV and Cancun and Hawaii is an overrated, fake paradise for Americans too scurred to go elsewhere.

  • I'm not a huge beach/pool person (usually a weekend is enough for me), so there are not many tropical destinations on my list.  I'd rather just do a weekend in Florida than a week in the Caribbean.  We tend to plan trips around visiting cities, because we're both very into history and architecture.  My in-laws just got back from two and a half weeks in Tahiti and Bora Bora (looks gorgeous) and it doesn't appeal to me personally.

That's kind of funny because probably about 75% of non-Americans who talk to me about wanting to visit the US really want to go to Vegas.  They don't seem to understand how I could not be interested.

I've never been to Vegas, and its certainly not on my top anything list. But I'm kinda curious - if my girlfriends planned a girls weekend or something i'd go. But I wouldn't intentionally plan a trip with DH or on my own, KWIM? Same for other places like that (Atlantic city?) I would go, but I wouldn't plan it specifically.

As for Hawaii, I love it. LOVE IT. I don't understand the hate!!! Though I will say that could change after I've had the chance to travel to other islands (St.Lucia, Fiji, Seychelles are on my list to get to).

  • Hawaii. It's a long way to go when there are other islands I'm much more curious about.

  • Australia.  DH wants to go so he can snorkel the GBR, but my friend Deb has snorkeled there 3 times and says St. John has better snorkeling.  So that's what I argue because I have no desire to go.  I'm also Irish, but would probably never choose to go to Ireland.  And I keep avoiding St. Lucia when my husband brings it up because I have a weird thing about beaches.  I need the water to be super clear turquoise or I won't go in beyond my ankles.  I know, weird.

    Never go back?  Dominican Republic.

  • Western Europe due to the exchange rate currently.  India, but mainly the bigger cities like Mumbai.  I have not interest in going back to Egypt.

I love reading these posts for the stereotypes and false perceptions.  I'm pretty open to trying anywhere once.  There are places where I've been that I am in no rush to return AND places that are lower on my list than others, but I'd never completely write off visiting a place based on the experience of others or things I've read/heard that may or may not be true.

  • Asia... Just haven't found anything there I care to see.

    Los Vegas.

Paris... I'd go if someone else paid but I have never wanted to invest my own money to see there.

I don't care about Hawaii as an island, but I aim to visit all 50 states so it's an important destination to complete my bucket list.

  • Las Vegas - been there done that too many times and it's really not that interesting.

Cuba - not sure what there is to see.

That's about it.  We're travelers and want to travel/live around the world.  We go on a big vacation once a year to somewhere new overseas.

  • Las Vegas
    Caribbean AIs in general
Niagara Falls, if that counts as a destination

  • I will probably go anywhere if an opportunity came up.  However, places that aren't anywhere on my wish list:

    Las Vegas
    Caribbean islands
Puerto Rico (went once, not in a big hurry to return)
    maybe China

    This, exactly.

I definitely have a huge wish list of places I want to visit but I am open to traveling anywhere. While there are a few places that I have visited that I wouldn't go running back to, I've yet to travel somewhere that doesn't have something worthwhile to see or explore.

  • Return to:

An all-inclusive:  I'm a food and drink snob and was not impressed.  Plus I'd prefer to see more of a country than a 2000 person hotel.

Bali:  I was not impressed.  It was fine, but not worth the 3 flights it took to get there.  There's many beaches that are much closer.

    New places:

India.  I have enough stomach troubles without going to India.  I guess I shouldn't say I have no interest in going, it's just towards the bottom of my list.

  • I'm really surprised at some of these responses...London, Paris, Asia, Australia...whaaaat!? To each his own though.

The only area I have no desire to see whatsoever is the Caribbean. Everywhere else I'd love to see at least once.

  • Camping.  I don't mind hiking and staying in a cabin but I refuse to ever go anywhere ever that requires I share a shower with strangers or sleep in a tent.

My mother in law just went on a hiking trip with a rhodes scholar group. There were 30 adults in a room with bunk beds, sharing 3 showers, and lights out at 10PM (although after hiking for a week that would probably happen anyway I just don't need someone dictating when I go to sleep if I am supposed to be on vacation).  No thank you!

  • I'm going to take a pass on Syria and various parts of Africa for safety reasons, but otherwise I'm pretty open to going anywhere (including those places should they become stable).

I'm of the opinion that most destinations can be enjoyable given the right mindset and travel companions.  But of course I am going to prioritize places I really want to see over places that I find less interesting.  For example pretty much anywhere in Europe is more interesting to me than Mexico, but if I got a free trip to Mexico I wouldn't snub my nose at it.

  • Omg some people actually wrote off all of Asia? lol!

I still WANT to go to India, it looks amazing, but I'm definitely scared of being in the bathroom the entire time - LOL.  That doesn't mean I don't want to go though!

I come across a lot of people who refuse to go to Africa. I just don't get it. I understand not wanting to go to certain parts, it's just the people that write it off entirely as some place they will never go that I don't understand. Africa is huge.

  • Not really. There are places that don't top my list but nowhere I'd outright refuse to go. And I totally agree that it's weird to write off entire regions or continents--especially ones that hold ~half of humanity.

  • There isn't anywhere I flat out don't want to go.  I have an incredibly lofty goal of seeing every country before I die.  I'm well aware of the fact that I'll probably not make it, but I'm going to try. :-)  With that said, the places on the bottom of my list are China, Japan, India and France.

i would not go back to paris...vegas...venice...

I think I might've read the question wrong. There really isn't anywhere I would absolutely refuse to go if I were given the opportunity. However, the places I listed are close to the bottom of my travel list, so unless I ever become a multimillionaire that can travel anywhere and everywhere then I won't put them at the top of my list.

The question was where you have no interest in travelling to... I'd go if it was paid, but I would never invest in visiting China or Japan. It just isn't on my list. It's no different than someone writing off all of Africa.

  • The only places I truly wouldn't go are places where there are possible safety issues.  Like others, I definitely have places near the bottom of my list, but not any that I would skip altogether -- I've had too mcuh fun in completely unexpected places to make a judgement like that. Places I probably wouldn't go back to: Iceland and Greenland.

I said I don't understand writing off Africa either, so I'm not just picking on you ;)   I lived in China so I suppose I just can't imagine never wanting to visit there... with all the history... wow!  Sometimes I think people write off places without really knowing a lot about them. I am sure there are plenty of things you'd be interested in seeing in China if you only knew about them!  It's a huge country, as large as the US.  But, maybe not! you're definitely entitled to your opinion!

  • Some of these answers are baffling to me. Paris and London! We went to both a few years ago and can't wait to go back! We had a fantastic time. I'm a little confused about Hawaii being fake. I'd love to go hiking to volcanos and see the black sand beaches etc (I haven't been there since I was 8). From what I can see from my friends' pictures that they took hiking in Hawaii, the sights don't look fake to me.  There's a lot to do in Hawaii away from the tourist hotels. I agree it's terribly overpriced.

Personally, I'm not too terribly interested in Mount Rushmore, Yosemite or places like that, and would go back to Vegas if someone else was paying but it isn't a priority at all.
