Forks Over Knives

Has anyone watched this film? What did you think?

I have been researching diets for several months now, attempting to find the best one. I have been eating mostly paleo, although I do cheat and eat fried foods from time to time (last week, I ate buffalo wings..opps!).

Anyway, this film really has me rethinking my diet. Should I really cut back on the meats?

Heart disease runs in my family.

There is just so much conflicting research out there. How do you decide which eating habits are the correct habits?

If you have feedback, it would be very much appreciated. But it's also just nice to get some of my frustration out in the open.

Re: Forks Over Knives

  • I have watched that film, and if you liked it I'd suggest also watching the documentary Fat Sick and Nearly Dead. It follows a man around the country while he goes cold turkey off his horrid diet as a desperate attempt to control his autoimmune disease.

As for what's the "correct" way to eat, I think that's a personal choice based on your goals and what works for your body. I personally try to eat a lot of vegetables and use meat/fish as a side, but I also choose to not deny myself my weekend glasses of wine and the occasional dessert or chicken wing/cheeseburger now and again.

I haven't seen this one in particular but I love documentaries like this. The most recent one I saw is In Search of The Perfect Human Diet (which has sort of the opposite message... fit guy with heart trouble goes vegan and then to paleo). There's a trailer here: http://perfecthumandiet.us/

I think the most important thing is to eat a variety of real, whole foods that agree with your body. Humans can thrive on a wide range of plant to animal ratios, from mostly plants to mostly animal (assuming the whole animal is utilized).

This girl is amazing at picking apart studies and has a whole bunch of articles about The China Study and one article in particular about Forks over Knives: http://rawfoodsos.com/2011/09/22/forks-over-knives-is-the-science-legit-a-review-and-critique/
