another tantrum question

at what age are tantrums supposed to stop at?  I understand any kid can loose it and have a tantrum at any age (well you know what i mean) but typically at what age do they stop tantrums over not getting things they want, etc?

I have taught BD and special ed so long that i am so out of whack with ages

Re: another tantrum question

  • I threw a tantrum this morning, so in my case they never stopped. :) I'm surprised DH hasn't left me yet... lol.

In all seriousness  though I don't have kids so I have no idea but I really hope they stop for you soon! :)

  • I am probably not a great example!!  DD never threw these things until well after 3.  She had them for a bit during "4", but stopped. NOW she is having them with fake crying.  But as I have been posting, this is going along with other behaviors as well.

I want to say 4 maybe?

  • I'm a "summer stepmom" as I call it due to visitation schedule but my SDs are 10 and 9 now and I am by NO MEANS an expert.  Last summer we went downtown in DC to watch the fireworks.  Afterwards, we went to the metro and it was hot, super crowded and the metro train was late.  SD1 was 9 at the time and she said "If the train doesn't come in 30 seconds I will scream as loud as I can, throw a tantrum and embarass you".  I told her it wouldn't make the train come faster and I would ignore her so she would just embarass herself.  The parents around us snickered some, she didn't throw a tantrum.  I'm not sure if she would have depending on my response? We also camped last summer and it rained one day and even though both girls had toys and DS games to play with she started out whining and then went on to full crying and yelling at DH about how bored she was.  Does that count as a tantrum?  If so, then 9.  I will let you know this summer if it goes up to age 10.  I'm guessing this isn't typical since SD2 doesn't do all these shenanigans.

  • I think they change, but don't necessarily ever stop. DD is almost 17 and still throws fits if she doesn't get her way. It's not out and out screaming crying anymore like it used to be, but she stomps away, slams doors, yells... It doesn't happen as often, but it hasn't stopped.

  • I'm 29 and I've had a few foot stomping, screaming tantrums. Perhaps I should look into therapy or medication.

Actually I blame lack of sleep and too many shiity diapers during the day.

Don't have much advice on the kid tantrums since ours just started with DS.
