Compost ?

My husband and I have a small deck garden since we live in an APT but still enjoy gardening. He started composting last year and I don't think he did it right. We don't put anything like meat in it or dog waste. We basically did leaves, kitchen scraps and rinds. I don't think he stirred it frequently enough because now it smells HORRIBLE when ever he opens it. He wants to scrap it and start over, but is there anything we could do to get it back on track?

You need to add more browns like dried leaves. You could also try ripping up some paper bags, wetting them andconverting it to a worm bin. They process waste much faster making them far more suitable forsmall composting space.

When you say opens it - what is the compost in?

I was wondering the same thing. How would one go about converting a composter to a worm bin? We have a large one from Menards, it was cheaper than buying a "worm bin."

Don't give up - layer Brown leaves each time. Let it air for a few days. we totally turned our compost around!
