Day 1 of nopoo

I used baking soda/water to wash my hair and apple cider vinegar/water to condition my hair.  No knots, very shiny, no vinegar smell, all natural and cheap!  :)

Re: Day 1 of nopoo

  • i did an acv rinse once and my hair was soooo smooth. but it did have a slight smell, so maybe i didn't rinse it out enough.

  • I too have recently gone conditioner-only, so I've shampooed maybe 5 times tops in all of 2012. And when I do, my hair gets crazy static and drives me bazonkers.  Why did no one tell me in over 30 years of washing my hair that shampoo was unnecessary and just giving me flyaways?

Did you have a week or so that your hair got completely greasy when you started?  I'm wondering what to expect....

  • I did this for awhile.  I had a good first week, then two weeks of adjustment where I was pretty greasy, then I was good.  I found that the ACV was just way too drying for my hair, which is naturally curly.

I found a good compromise using the baking soda as shampoo and then a regular sulfate free conditioner.

  • I did nopoo for six months or so a couple years back, and it got a bit greasy during the second week, I think (toward the beginning, but not immediately and not for long). After a while it just didn't seem to be doing anything - my hair wasn't bad but it wasn't particularly good, either. I'm on the cowash and occasional shampoo kick right now.

  • I've been reading about and considering this but I don't know if I can do it. Greasy face I can handle but I don't know if I can do greasy hair!

I don't normally use conditioner so do you think I'd need the vinegar? How often do you do this? I normally wash my hair daily.

Husbands should be like Kleenex: Soft, strong, and disposable.
  • I just started today.  I usually wash my hair every other day.  If you don't usually condition than I'd start off just with the baking soda/water mixture.  If you find that your hair is dry or hard to get through, then I would add in the apple cider mixture.  You may not need to wash your hair daily if you do this.....

Yes,for the first 7-10 days or so I was pretty greasy, and I'm blonde so it really shows. I used dry shampoo when I felt unpresentable.

I'm also using commercial conditioner to "wash"  (& I use a TON, do it every day, and really massage it in before rinsing) so it may be a little different than using baking soda/vinegar.
