Spur of the moment 5k

Hey girls I wanted to share with you, As you know I registered for the Susan G Komen 5k in May. I just graduated from C25k but in my 30 minute run Im only up to a 2.25 mile. I know I have more training to do before I get to race day, but I was in class yesterday and saw a poster for a school-sponsored 5k and decided I would go and see what I could do. It was cross-country, rolling hills, winding paths and mostly grass. I walked 90% and ran a few spots, straight aways, passing some slow groups etc. I finished in 58 minutes and 20 seconds. and I am very proud. I feel a little more at ease about the next race and certainly learned a few things. I know for sure though that I have to continue training in the next few weeks and cannot get relaxed.  The weather was...fair. It was 43 degrees and gloomy, during registration/warm up it was hailing but it stopped just before we began, after the race it started raining so we got lucky. It was chilly at first but once we started we were fine. Anyway thanks for reading, I just wanted to share.

  • Good for you!  Now keep training and you'll be even more impressed with your improvement from this race to your next.
  • Great job! Finishing is always exciting, whether its your first or 10th and whether you walked and it took you an hour or whether it only took you 25 minutes.

  • Nice work!

Just know that a cross country/trail race is a lot more technical than a regular road race, meaning you have to pay a lot more attention to where you're going so you don't trip and fall, etc, so I'm sure you'll be much faster in your next race, provided it's on the road.  Good luck!
