frick.

Just found out H has to go to a course the weekend after I'm leaving town for our move.  That, in and of itself, has no impact on me, since I'll be gone anyways, but the price is giving me heart palpatations.  $3500 for one weekend course.  Now, his future practice said they'll reimburse us, since they asked him to take the course, however, since they aren't allowed to give him any $$ before he is officially on contract, they can't just pay upfront.  Ditto for the move.

Ah yes, the move.  I'm anticipating it to cost over $5k.  Not that I actually have any written estimate yet, because one company didn't call me back to arrange a quote, and the one that came to the house for a full visual estimate couldn't be bothered to actually write up and email me the estimate.  Lady drove all the way out here on Tuesday, spent an hour at my house, and I haven't heard a word, even after emailing her directly to *ask* for the quote.  I have 2 more scheduled for this week, but I'm not feeling good about this.  At all.

Fricking money.  Fricking movers.

*grumble*

Re: frick.

  • Ouch. Often times my H has to buy gear or update his equipment for jobs and isn't reimbursed until he's paid for the job, typically 90 days. It stresses me out.

I can't believe that's how much a move costs holy shiit! (it's across the country right?) pls tell me that includes packing/unpacking? I've never paid for this service, it's always been us, a uhaul and many beer bribes!

  • That will include a full pack.  Like, I'm not packing a damn thing except the girls' suitcases for my parents' house, and whatever essentials I need for a couple weeks on my own in the house (air mattress, one pot, a knife, cutting board, set of sheets, set of towels vacuum, broom, clothes, etc).

When we moved down here (also cross country), I sat in the back yard, did my nails and read a book while 2 people packed my house.  That cost just under $5k, and we have more crap now.  So I'm expecting it to be higher.  Only $1200 of that fee was for packing.  Worth every penny, IMO, since I would have had to do it w/ a 2 year old under foot.  It really made things much less stressful.

  • $3500 for a weekend long class? So at most like an 18 hour course?

    Ugh. stressful.

  • ITA agree that it's worth every penny. I would not pack a thing with one kid in tow, let alone two!
  • When I took this position they offered me reimbursement for the move, but I had to front the money.  I felt like I was just bleeding money my first couple months here.  I hope the move is as stress free as possible- and that his new job is quick cutting you guys that check.
  • Ugh. That is a lot of cash to come up with up front. I hope it all goes smoothly.

DH's job bargained away reimbursement of CMEs for the doctors.  It is the one thing that is really annoying about an otherwise good match. He has become very good and evaluating how much the conference is really worth to him.

H needs to figure that part out.  You know how many random courses/conferences there are.  They are offered all.the.time.  He saw this particular one, and thought it would be useful, so he asked them if they wanted him to take it.  Of course they said yes.

But I was like, really?  You couldn't take this next year?  Or even in 4 months?  Really?  REALLY? Super Angry
